I've been reading on this forum for a bit now, and decided to make today the day of my first post. (exciting, I know) Anyway ...

First off, I want to thank the experienced people that are here alot giving help to those people who have almost no idea what they are doing. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Well, here goes. I've got me a 91 Civic and I'd like to swap the engine out. I'd prefer to keep my car all or atleast mostly engine. Sure I could turbo it, but I'd much rather build the engine. I was thinking swapping in a b18b or b18c. IS that a good idea for the year civic that I have ? Mounting brackets and a wiring harness aren't always bad things, but they are a little more trouble. What would you all recommend I put in ?

Also, where could I look to get a good price on an engine in respectable condition ?

Right now I'm in the planning/saving stages. After I get everything layed out I'm going to go out and start making purchases, so I'm not to the buying part yet. I appreciate you taking the time to read my post. Looking forward to being enlightened.

if you wanted to go N/A i would choose the b18c over the b18b, the b18a/b is better for turbo in my opinion. the 88-91 civic you have is a great year. 4th gens rule all. there are plenty of good engine sites, nipponmotors.com, but i personally like to search ebay, and thepartstrader.com, always finding good deals.

anyways go here for a good price on a gsr.

The best choice swap for this car is the B16A1 from a 88-91 SiR-1. It saves a lot of hassle with OBD wiring. It is also WAY cheaper, 1200 bucks for the complete change over. Then mounts are about 400, but still everything to give you 160 HP for less than 2K. The B18C1 will give you 180 HP, but will cost twice as much as the B16 for the swap.

I know this is O/T but just to help people with terms......B16A1 refers to the JDM 1st gen Integra xsi. The 1st gen 88-91 JDM B16A (non-OBD)came in the SiR I and II trim level. The 2nd gen 92-00 B16A also came in the SiR I and II trim level. 92-95 being OBDI and 96-00 being OBDII. Just helping in the terms. Sorry for the O/T.

Huh? Don't you mean 2G teg? The 1G JDM teg had the ZC D16 didn't it? And the 2G JDM teg had the B16A1.
Yeah I just put the 1 on the end from habit, my bad. I did specify that it was from a 88-91 SiR-1 though.

The JDM 1st gen came with a B16 or ZC. The 2nd came out with the B17A. SiR I is just the trim level of the car like EX/LX/DX. The 88-91 Civic also came in the SiR II trim level. It has nothing to do with the engine seeing as both the SiRI and SiRII both had the same engine.

Are you positive about that info? Can you give me a link supporting those claims?

Here's a quick one I just found so you don't think I'm FOS. But what are you reffering to? The 1st gen teg xsi or the 2nd gen B17A causet the B17A was in the USDM 2nd gen Teg GSR.

Actually I'm not so sure now. I see many sites that say 89 Teg xsi w/ a B16A but the pic looks like a second gen. Then I look up 89 Teg and the US version is in the 1st gen body style. Can someone else clarify?

the 84-87 USDM 1G teg ran a d16a somthing, much like a ZC. the 88-91 USDM 2G Teg ran a b18a, while the jap 88-91 Teg's had either the B16, or a B18 powerplant.

WHAT? You know nothing about tegs I see.
USDM 1G teg goes from 86-89 with the D16A1
2G is 90-93 with either B18A1 or B17A1(92-93 GSR)
3G is 94-01 with B18B1 or B18C1

PWMAN, if you're so keen on Integra's explain this than.

If you plan to go turbo, go with the B18a/b. They have good internals for it. If your leaning more towards the N/A side, go with the B18c. it comes with high compression pistons over the low compression pistons from the b18a/b. but yes, goin with the b16 is a lot cheaper. so, who ever said that. :bigthumb:

I know about USDM tegs, I don't know much at all about JDM ones. But either JDM or US they never made an integra before 86.
