Evo 8 vs '86 944 Turboccc880 07-25-2003, 12:08 AM Hey, what do you think would be faster, an Evo 8 or a 1986 Porsche 944 with a turbo? Which handles better? Thanks!! blasian_man 07-25-2003, 03:11 AM im gonna have to go with the evo, i dunno much about the porsche, but i do know that the car is as old as me, and many porsche's that i see around in my area from that body still look like shiet. im guessing the rest of the car is shiet too, unless you get one in mint condition heres a review of a '86 944 w/o turbo http://www.cars.com/carsapp/national/?srv=review&act=search&mkid=41&mdid=389&yr=1986&x=6&y=10 Jimster 07-25-2003, 03:18 AM I'd take the Porsche on a track Evo 8 in the snow or dirt. NISSANSPDR 07-25-2003, 10:17 AM The Porsche has at best 250HP but is still not as fast or AWD enough to beat the Evo VIII :bigthumb: rs_k8432 08-02-2003, 01:09 AM yea id go wit the Evo cuz of its handling and its fast too ccc880 08-12-2003, 08:25 AM exactly what I thought 944turbo 11-11-2003, 01:53 PM Gentlemen....I just wanted to edjucate you on Porsche 944 Turbo's. I have owned 5 in the past 10 years. They are awsome! I have a 1986 I bought from an old lady. I just put the Autothority MAIF on the car. It ran a 12.67 ET in the 1/4 mile. I also just test drove a 2003 EVO...wow! If you do suspension modifications and MAIF to a 944 Turbo it will pull away from a stock EVO on the straight line with no problem! However, once you hit the twisties...I think the EVO would take it if the 944 Turbo is stock. I paid $6500 for the 944 Turbo. It is flawless! I have about $1500 in the MAIF. I guess $2k - 3k in suspsension and tires would put me at about 10k. One third the price of the EVO. Not bad! Wouldn't you say. By the way a 944 Turbo was twice as expensive as a 944. There are two different animals. Can't compare the two.... ccc880 11-11-2003, 04:36 PM I wasnt talking value or price but just the performance of a stock evo vs a stock 944 turbo. I am sure you could get a 1k civic, put 9k into it and have it beat a 944 turbo, but who would want that? I think that everyone can agree that stock vs stock the evo is a better performer. kman10587 09-04-2004, 02:10 PM Yeah, stock vs. stock the Evo has 17 years of technology that the 944 Turbo doesn't. It's hard to make up for that kind of difference. YogsVR4 09-12-2004, 11:44 AM Yeah, stock vs. stock the Evo has 17 years of technology that the 944 Turbo doesn't. It's hard to make up for that kind of difference. Pretty much true of any comparison across generations. SporkLover 09-13-2004, 06:30 PM ???? Stock for Stock it goes to an Evo 8 with a good driver.....if you are talking straightline acceleration from a stop. From a roll the Turbo 944 would eat the Evo alive. Around an AutoX course...that would be interesting... but I would lean towards the Evo. My friend has a a 89 944 Turbo, and a 87 944 S.... I have learned alot about these cars in the past few years.... even though they are treated like the red-headed step child of Porsches... they are awesome. kman10587 09-13-2004, 07:36 PM Hell yeah, a turbo Porsche is a turbo Porsche no matter where the engine is located. Still, I think even from a roll the Evo could keep up fairly well (if not win). 6dmnbag 09-14-2004, 07:16 PM the guy who lives across the street from me has a 87 944 turbo and i think he put about 2000 on parts(suspension, turbo, exshaust) not counting repairs. we call it the little grey monster because it is ridiculously fast finally_retired 09-15-2004, 07:20 PM I'm a Porsche fan. Through and through. Not sure I'd be comfortable with the boy race image of the evo. I'm sure its a good and capable car, but just the look of the turbo would part me with my cash. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
