Hi,
I recently added a cd deck player in my 91 accord. I just spliced the wires of the existing tape deck to my cd player and thought that would do but now if the harness is hooked on the deck there is no sound that comes out of the cd player. Is there any one who is aware of what i should do to fix this. It's probably a wiring mistake. Also when i hooked up the speakers i wasn't sure wich ones were for which speakers and so on so i just tried them all until i got then all ok for the right left and so on, but i am not sure if i have the + - rigth. Is there anyone who has a wiring diagram that i could refer to for this.
Thanks
Rob

You didn't actually cut any of the factory wires, did you? Just go to your local electronics store, and pick up a wiring harness adapter for your model car, it lets you just plug the existing factory wires into it, then you splice the ADAPTER HARNESS onto your new HU's wiring harness (the coloring scheme is nearly identical in most cases, with striping to differentiate +/-... you can't really do it wrong, and you don't risk hacking up your cars' existing wiring.) If you DID cut the factory wires, go to a Radio Shack or whatever and buy a couple packs of butt connectors. Then crimp the factory wiring back together exactly (don't just half-ass it with wire twisting and electrical tape, crimping is MUCH better.) And then use the adapter harness. Also, I think someone else posted something nearly identical to this a couple days ago, so check there too.

yes do t hat, if ur radio works and ur cd doesnt then ur deck is bad. pick up a connector or at least look at the reference to match the wires.

ok here's what i did exactly. First i checked on the back speakers for the wire colors and wrote them down. Then when i went to the front speakers the wire colors were the same (wierd) so anyway i opened the deck compartment and found my power wires and hooked them up and then found the speaker wires by opening them and touching the appropriate wires from the cd until i got the right side and fade. as for the connections i just shaved a little plastic off the wires then wrapped the cd wires off of them. everything works fine ecxept that when the two harnesses are hooked up the cd sound doesn't come through and as soon as i unhooked the harness from the tape deck the sound was back.
so you are saying that i should go to the audio shop and buy a splitter that fits to the harness for my car and then everything would work, but doesn't that do the same thing as splicing them. one thought i had is that i should get my power from an independent source instead of the same power wire, but i dunno i've done quite a bit of hooking up stereos but never two systems into one.
thanks
Rob

wait a sec..u ADDED a cd player to ur existing system? ur not installing a new deck all together? now it gets tricky if this is the case. buying a harness wont really help at all. the audio output from the cd player (depending on the cd deck itself) goes through another wire...its either a changer wire DIN (i htink) or speaker wires.
let me nkow for clairifacation and maybe a type and model number.
hope i dont got u wrong, or ill look like a dumbass like melt (JK).
u can still use the same power wire though...holla back though we will help u
"everything works fine ecxept that when the two harnesses are hooked up the cd sound doesn't come through and as soon as i unhooked the harness from the tape deck the sound was back. "
two systems cant operate under 1 speaker wire at the same time. distortion and some other shit unless u turn the other one off and so off...
tell me why ur doing this

Whoa, TWO units? Didn't notice that (good call ztech.) Hmmm. Some good old fashioned jury-rigging is needed here! Well, I'd agree that you should be able to tap into the factory wires BEFORE they connect into the tape deck (use what are called T-taps), then splice THOSE wires into the wiring harness for the CD player. You'ld have to make sure both units aren't on at the same time, as you may blow the fuse for the stereo power wire (I'd suggest installing a switch somewhere) I couldn't tell you which wires are for what, though it seems like you've probably figured that out for the most part. IMO, all this splicing will no doubt end up causing you a loss in audio quality, not to mention a major hassle in trying to fit it all back in!!
I'm also curious as to why you want to do this, and where are you going to mount the new cd player? (Since the stock tape player is double sized) Do you really need the tape player? If you can't live without your tapes, just shell out for one of those nice combination tape/cd HU's. And make sure to use an adapter

It's a sony but i'm not sure of the model number though i'll check tommorow.

I'm not sure i follow you on this note here please explain if relevant.

I realize that but even if the tape deck is off there is still no sound from the cd.
thanks
tenguzero:
yes there are two decks, the reason being is i have some tapes that i want to listen to also and i'm sure there is a way of pulling this off. as for size there is no prob because i took the dumb cd like tray that is't useful for anything and the cd deck fit there under the tape deck.
as for the power even if i run it from another source the problem is still there; while the cd is playing as soon as i plug the harness in the tape deck the cd cuts out, it still runs but the sound just cuts out. i wonder if i ran independent speaker wires from the cd to the speakers if this would work or if that would cause problems with the originals wires still there??? Lots of questions but i'm sure there is an answer out there somewhere.
Thanks guys for your help

forget that..now i know what system u are trying to run.
well lets say u run an individual line to the speakers from each stereo...i think u will have the same problem unless u run a switch to change the speaker systems...
instead..why not run a 3 way switch for the 2 decks. it consists of 3 connectors..."aux 1...off...aux 2". this enables you to switch from deck to deck without much effort. when the switch is in aux 1 or position 1 it can power ur primary cd player with ur tape deck off...when its in aux 2 or position 2 then it turns off ur cd player and turns on your tape player. problem solved, and your only using the remote wire for each of these systems.
that helps to not run additional speaker lines and crazy setups.
but i gotta think about that one...something doesnt seem right..but a switch would work
i have a tape/cd player from a gsr in my accord right now. i dont use the tape though. i have also a double din cd changer with tape player on the side cuase my father liked listining to tapes...eventually i converted them to a cd.
tenguzero made a good point that the 2 units dont run on the same line...i recalled my friend burned his remote line becuase of that.

I kinda thought of somekind of switch but the one your describing would it hve all the connections for the speakers too or just the power becauseif it's just the power it might not work because i troed running the cd playerfrom a ifferent power source and the problem persisted.

well was the two units on at the same time when u ran it from another source....see if the units run at the same time, sound wont work, but as u stated when u turn one off it will work...so basically that switch will act as a bridge between both systems and only use the power. since u spliced the lines already it wont need to be connected to the speaker wires...
but damn its confusing now...gotta think about this alot more....i was trying to think about it last night, the only thing i came up with was just turning off one deck with a switch or manually.
maybe i got you all wrong though haha:bloated:

yeah i tried it with the deck turned off but still nothing, i stopped by the electronics audio store and the guy told me that it couldn't be done having two decks onto the same wiring system because the sound from one could go into the other and burn it but i have a feeling that there is a way of having a switch between the speakers that would work.

there is a way and its possible. some cars that have a security system tied into the radio(stock) needs that radio to work or their keyless entry system wont work. what they do is they shove the old deck in the back and just splice the wires and then hook up the new deck. i know civics have this.
if u want to do a switch...your going to need many switches...4 of them cause of four speakers...back left and right, front left and right. u cant connect them together becuase your going to ground the wires.

go down to the pic that says dbdt switch. now thats the 3 way switch i was telling you about. the wiring under that switch is the picture right next to it.
--here is the setup--
the first top row of pins is for the INPUT of one speaker from unit 1...the second row of pins goes as an OUTPUT to the speaker....the last row is the INPUT for the one speaker from unit 2.
--here is how its going to work--
now if the switch was in the top position the sound from unit 1 will play, if the switch was in the bottom position then the unit 2 will play. this will act as a switch for your system and you would have to either repeat this step 4 times for 4 speakers...or fine a switch that can handle 4 speaker connections.
the center position is off...
i hope im not confusing you...i can draw a diagram if its really confusing you, but i believe that this theroy should work. anyone argue if this sounds like its not going to work...i dont mind.
