Ok im not even gonna pretend like im an experct on the situation, but i dont know jack shit bout superchargen or turbo chargen, but im looken to do one or the other to my neon.

first, what does superchargen or turbochargen do to your engine? what goes on, whats different then without super or turbochargen it?

will the horsepower gains be worth the money?

are there long term harsh effects of either?

can you do both super and turbocharge your car?

which should i do, turbo or super?

i know thats a lot of questions and all but all the input i get would be very helpful.

well I'm not really an expert on the subject either. but I believe that a turbo is gonna give you more hp. the difference between the two, if I'm not mistaken is that a turbo charger uses the exhaust to turn a turbine that sucks in air, compresses it, and then puts it through your intakes into the cylinder. compressing the air means that you can fit more air into your cylinder thus creating a more powerful explosion which turns into more hp. a supercharger does the same thing yet instead of using the exhaust, it uses a belt off the engine to power it, similar to other systems like the water pump and alternator. as far as which one is easier/cheaper to install? I have no idea. I have yet to find a price quote on a turbo charger for a neon. and I've never really heard anyone talk about supercharging a neon. try the simpler engine bolt-on upgrades first. www.modernperformance.com is a great place to start. and if you find somewhere that'll give you a price quote on a turbocharger for a neon, let me know, cause I'm lookin into gettin one on mine too. oh by the way, if anyone reading this sees something wrong w/ what I said. please feel free to correct me. I'm still learning, myself.

Scatch!

They both do the same thing - ram more air/fuel into your engine. The means by which they each do it was explained in the above post.

It depends on what you want and what you can afford. The less knowledge you have on the subject, the more it's going to cost you. That is to say, if you really know your stuff with turbos or SCs, you can build your own. If you don't, you get to pay someone else to do it... the route most people go. http://www.turbosystem.com/

Of course. Anytime you put more stress on your engine, in this case ramming more air into it, the expected life of the engine will be lowered. Though with proper care and reasonable levels of boost, your engine will last a very long time.

can you do both super and turbocharge your car?

Yes, but twincharging is expensive and pointless for a street car. Though, IIRC Detroit Diesel AV91 and AV92 two-stroke diesels and HKS used to make a twincharger kit for the Toyota 4AGE. I suspect that it was too expensive...

That's a choice YOU need to make. Most sport compact folks prefer turbocharging, and the only setup you're going to find for a Neon is a turbo, so maybe that makes your choice easier. ;)
