im confusedCHaserTourv 07-20-2003, 07:55 PM is the current porsche (996) just called 996, or is it still a 911?? CHaserTourv 07-20-2003, 07:57 PM is it like the BMW 7-Series goes like E38, E60, etc?? Tetsuo 07-21-2003, 08:28 PM Every Porsche newcomer is confused about 911 chassis codes. The 996 is a 911 but is oftenly called the former because it is easier to distringuish. I own a 996 is quicker to say than I own a 2000 911. The generation before that is called the 993 and before the 993 is the 964. These are just chassis codes for different generation 911s. CHaserTourv 07-21-2003, 10:42 PM o ok, now i get it, except i aint reely a porsche newcomer Tetsuo 07-21-2003, 11:33 PM Originally posted by CHaserTourv o ok, now i get it, except i aint reely a porsche newcomer Oh really? Well I do apologize for assuming that you were. I get carried away with my ego thinking that people who commonly ask this very same question is a Porsche newcomer. Again, I apologize. Cheerio. -Tetsuo CHaserTourv 07-21-2003, 11:51 PM its ok hakka 07-22-2003, 12:07 PM Its not just the 911s that have these designations. These are the internal project numbers that the factory uses. For the 911s, you have the 901, 930, 964, 993, and 996. Then you have the 951 in the 944 series. The Boxster is the 986. The Cayenne is either the 999 or the 955 (I have heard both and don't know which is correct). I'm probably leaving a few out, too:wave: PUBLIUS 01-22-2004, 11:31 PM My sources say the Cayenne is 955. busa_4 09-03-2004, 02:26 PM this number is refered to the engine family. ex: 993 is a air cooled 911, 996 is the water cooled 911, 986 is the smaller displacement version of the 996 engine, 964 is the air cooled mechanical valve'd version of a 911, etc, etc. glenncof 09-30-2004, 04:00 PM Is there a list/table of these version numers and major differences ? My brain needs help absorbing. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
