I was mainly pointing my finger to the Japanese luxury divisions in the U.S. What I don't like about them is that they are going as far as changing the original name--something which represents the soul and spirit of a car--to assist sales, and this method also seems somewhat of a rip of German luxury car companies (i.e. Lexus LS430, Mercedes S 430). How would the world be if every time you took a trip to another country, you had to change your name into a series of numbers and letters, perhaps M6.2us to describe that a person is in the male "class", 6'2" tall, and from the U.S. instead of simply John. Money corrupts.

The MR2 is the same name in Japan as it is here so I don't have a problem with your mister two. ;)

Portray nothing? A Tercel is bird of prey! Hey it's better than Chevy's "Corvette" (Yes, we'll name a sports car after a type of sail boat! - how about schooner or dingy?)

O.K. I know, I drive a Yugo, but if every car's name was just the first four letters of it's country of origin, we'd have Germs, Japas, Sweds, and Itals for imports.

That may be true, but seriously - fairmont? A friend of mine had one, until little kids next door to him treated the roof like a trampoline, then he parked it and abandoned it.

I like GTO, but you have to know what it means and say that way. "Gran Tourismo Oblingato" I'm probably wrong on the spellings but you get the idea. Also I like cars named for their competitive catagory. ie Porsche GT2. I hate ones name after something else, ie McLaren F1 .

The McLaren is basically a road-gonig F1 car- designed by Gordon Murray and the McLAren Formula One team- so realistically it can carry that name

Doesn't seem to roll off the tongue, does it? I've never heard the word pronounced out loud before, but presume it sounds like it should be spelled "Blennum". A forgivable choice, with Bristol having once built the Blenheim bomber, and I guess that was selected from an important (to somebody) battle, in 1704 IIRC. Anyhow, it has more 'zing' then their sequential numbering....but not by much.

I like Manta (Opel) and Vitesse (Triumph); also Carina (Toyota) although, having seen one in motion, perhaps they should have spelled it "Careena". :iceslolan

I have to say I think Bugatti is one of the most fun to say. The only thing more fun to say is the guy who creted it. I mean cmon just say it is that lovely fake accent we all can do... "Ettore Bugatti".... now tell me thats not fun.

I think "Fidelis" would be a great name for a car. Why hasn't anyone used it yet?

OK, for names that actually exist...My favorites are dodge Intrepid, Chevrolet Silverado, and Toyota Tundra. The Tundra happens to be a sweet truck as well!

For those not up on their Latin, "Fidelis" means "Faithful."

BTW i checked out the meaning of "corolla" on dictionary.com: "The petals of a flower considered as a group or unit and usually of a color other than green; the inner whorl of the perianth." mouthful if you ask me, they should have just said "flower petals."
