its that time again, smog check.whiteracer 07-16-2003, 12:59 AM alright ya'll, i got that infamous registration thing from the DMV in the mail a couple days ago regarding a smog check. And i have to go to one of those "special ones", i forget what they're called. All i know is that i got like a month to get it done, and i'm a little unsure of what's gonna affect this. All i got regarding intake and performance is an AEM CAI. And a muffler that would cause me to fail right? I'm trying to lose that as soon as possible and i have the high probability of getting a Apex'i cat back this weekend. What should i do? I still have the stock intake in case that is a concern. I've never had to get a smog check before and i heard something about because of the car i drive i'm being singled out. It also might be cause i bought the car about 4 months ago. SilverY2KCivic 07-16-2003, 03:20 AM Exhaust shouldn't be a problem since it's AFTER the cat. It's anything BEFORE the cat they can fail you for visually. Swap back in your stock intake for the meantime, and then you should be alright. :bigthumb: whiteracer 07-16-2003, 10:19 AM really? so all cat-back exhaust systems are ok to have? they pass inspection? so when i go with the Apex'i next week, i shouldn't have a problem right? SilverY2KCivic 07-16-2003, 01:03 PM As far as smog, I don't think you should have any problem. As far as I know, they problems with exhaust is purely the noise issue, but don't quote me on that. Maybe stop by a couple smog places this week and ask around, that's probably what I'd do, but since the muffler and anything BEHIND the cat has nothing to do with emissions, I don't see how they'd be able to fail you for having one. TheNotoriousMogg 07-16-2003, 06:02 PM AEM CAI, is carb exempt right??? why wouldent it be ok to keep in? whiteracer 07-17-2003, 01:40 AM yeah, that's what i thought, it even has a stick on the intake that says so. TheNotoriousMogg 07-17-2003, 10:35 AM Originally posted by whiteracer yeah, that's what i thought, it even has a stick on the intake that says so. so just go in and do your test bud :bigthumb: SilverY2KCivic 07-17-2003, 12:10 PM Duh, AEM=CO exempt. Ok, so don't worry about anything and go in with your intake on. Just BE SURE it's all hooked up correctly, as in the crank case breather hose is connected properly to the intake, and the temp sensor is also hooked up to it as well. Good luck in it man. Melt 07-22-2003, 03:12 PM my car goes in soon ... already got my stock intake back on ... hopefully they dont notice the sohc zc and ill be good to go. GTA 07-23-2003, 08:18 PM Originally posted by Melt my car goes in soon ... already got my stock intake back on ... hopefully they dont notice the sohc zc and ill be good to go. the sohc zc is considered a replacement engine for the d15b2 that the car used to have, so you wont have a problem at all. Melt 07-23-2003, 08:52 PM aight good ... the block is real dirty just in case lol GTA 07-23-2003, 09:06 PM Originally posted by Melt aight good ... the block is real dirty just in case lol LoL :bigthumb: im sure it is, all that 4 wheelin you do..i mean look at the pic in your sig, i would think it would be crazy if it was clean after that. Frostbyte 07-24-2003, 03:42 AM Originally posted by GTA the sohc zc is considered a replacement engine for the d15b2 that the car used to have, so you wont have a problem at all. Actually it isn't. ZC is a Japanese engine that does not meet U.S. smog laws. The thing is Melt you have a DOHC ZC block with the SOHC U.S. spec duel point fuel enjected head so they may over look it but if they try to pull the up serial number on that block it will not match that car. Melt 07-24-2003, 01:55 PM nate WTF are you talking about ... the entire engine is SOHC ... it is NOT i repeat NOT a DOHC ZC Frostbyte 07-24-2003, 03:01 PM Originally posted by Melt nate WTF are you talking about ... the entire engine is SOHC ... it is NOT i repeat NOT a DOHC ZC To my understanding the SOHC ZC's did not come in DPFE You bought the car that way right? I think what someone did is they bought a ZC engine and used the head and sold the block on someone put on a USDM DPFE head on the DOHC block. Which would be a good thing because if you were to get a ZC head on put it on your block you would gain quite a bit more horse. GTA 07-24-2003, 04:58 PM you can call up Attarco in oakland for a low mileage replacement engine for a 88 civic hatch and end up getting a sohc zc. it looks the exact same and its not a dohc block with sohc head...there are such things as a sohc zc. and from what i have learn you cant put a dohc zc head on a a6 block so you wouldnt be able to put and a6 or b2 head on a zc block Melt 07-24-2003, 05:26 PM both head and block are SOHC ZC ... i jsut have the DPFI fuel injection which was on the stock d15. Melt 07-24-2003, 07:51 PM AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.illusiverides.com/forum/images/smilies/madrage.gif http://www.illusiverides.com/forum/images/smilies/madrage.gif my dad is soo stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!
