Im sad to say dat...the frankfurt show was cancelled ..and never got to see the unveiling of ZZ2. But Tommy kaira would have been great to see
how the final production look like..and press to show its specs and interior... If you dont know ,what is a Tommy Kaira ! its a $90K sportcar
mid engine / all wheel drive / RB26dett (nissan skyline gtr motor) @ 550hp / 6pot front/4pot rear brakes/ F/R aero diffusers / full roll cage / and all kinds of options u want
it to a v8 or v12 ( i dun kno is thats true! ) / navigation sys / LCD screens.....

the ZZ2 is suppose to huv a topspeed of 210mhp./0-60 ????/ 1/4 ????

so what do u think!

11-21-2001, 02:17 PM
Frankfurt wasnt cancelled! Maybe parts were, but the show still happened.

0-60 should be in the mid to low 3's. 1/4 in the 11s. Really fast. They will probably put in any engine you want, as long as it fits. And they will be made in England most likely.
A really neat, light car. Quite a step up from the ZZ coupe, though:cool:

12-08-2001, 11:28 PM
The car is going to be badass. Does anybody have any more pics?:D

it took me awhile to git it coz i huv no scanner

renamed AUTOBACS RS-01, sounds retarded.....

02-23-2002, 04:03 PM
It kicks ass. I was hoping that it would have a V12 though.

03-16-2002, 05:28 AM
Bah, who needs a V12 when you have a RB26? Those motors can be built to sickening specs.

Sorry Chris, but Tomita Kaira has this thing with Nissan, they originally started making tuner skylines, and then made their own production models. The ZZ-3 had an SR20 I think, but it used carburetors as opposed to the nissan SFI. Go figure.

I'm a little confused here:confused:
I know they tuned skylines, they have a massive amount of aftermarket parts for them. I know they made some of their own production cars, like the ZZ coupe and roadster (don't know the engine, but they had 180-200hp, made mostly of aluminum, weighed about 1800lbs, and didn't even have carpet!) I didn't know about the ZZ3 though:rolleyes:

03-18-2002, 08:10 PM
I think the ZZ-3 was introduced in 2000 or 2001. I had a R&T issue with a little bit on it. They went on about the whole carburetor thing, so that's where I got my first info about them. I played GT 2 and found TKs in it, got a ZZ-3 and tuned it to around 300 hp. That one had a SR20DET, so it must have been Japan spec. Track TKs are rare, but very fun, at around 1500 lbs, they are like an Elise with a ridiculously powerful engine

06-05-2002, 12:40 PM
I'll drag this one up from the depths to add what I've read.

Powerplant: RB26DETT tuned to 400kw (N1 perhaps??)

Suspension:inboard, coil-over strut suspension and six pot brake calipers. The rear getting large rotors and with four potters.

Apparently the GT-R parts bin was raided for a few other bits on the car besides the engine, not sure which parts. ATTESSA perhaps :D We can only hope ;)

Pics: canman's site
Notice anything about the above pic?
Mmmmm RB26DETT :licker: :licker:

All I see is that it looks like its left-hand drive, so maybe its headed for the US? The e-brake looks wierd too, at least to me it does. It looks like its wayyyy to close to the door... Although I have a feeling that I'm missing the blatently obvious...

06-05-2002, 04:50 PM
Yeah, LHD, e-brake looks like it's on the passenger seat...

No leg room, instruments would be impossible to read...

Anything I missed :)

What ya Smoking?!?

06-23-2002, 08:36 PM
I have no idea about the car in reality but man in Gran Turismo 3 that car kicks a lot of ass. Can't be modified but you don't really need to. Fast as hell and hugs corners something like a McLaren. Kinda looks like one too. Love it, can't afford it.

06-24-2002, 02:43 AM
do they have one for the kaira???:sun:

06-24-2002, 02:52 AM
w00t! Just whorin... nice car though, I had the ZZII and 3 in GT2, and man... I eventually switched to using Silvias for the lower hp classes, but only because they were so much more neutral and stable.

I was posting 2-4 second fast laps in the TKs

06-24-2002, 10:41 AM
come on guys... is there a tommy kaira website???

06-24-2002, 05:18 PM
Yeah, two of em. If you want english

06-24-2002, 06:14 PM

06-26-2002, 12:13 PM
is there an official website, as the other one is crap.
where can i get a ZZ3

06-26-2002, 03:57 PM
Well, Tommy Kaira is a tuner company. They have traditionally worked with Nissan, tuning Skylines, but are now also working with Scoobaru.

The ZZ series are rather limited in production, but if you want one, try emailing them.

BTW, the english website is still the TK official site.

06-26-2002, 04:38 PM
but why isn't it in english. i don't actually speak japanese...

08-07-2002, 07:14 PM
Well, this may be a wild shot in the dark, but maybe because the Tomita Kaira firm is Japanese :D

09-16-2002, 05:22 AM

10-29-2002, 09:46 AM
I have a funny feeling that the E-Brake (we call it handbrake) is actually the door handle... You canot see the other side door... Anyway I might well enquire to Tommy Kaira about this car, I really would like to test drive and mybe buy one.

11-01-2002, 10:14 AM
What does everyone else think?

11-01-2002, 06:24 PM
I tihnk that the pictures are broken.:(

11-02-2002, 03:13 AM
Yes I ripped them and they broke, so I guessed at trying to stick them together.

11-02-2002, 05:14 AM
who is tommy kaira???

11-02-2002, 05:37 AM
Tuning company, but they do build their own cars.

Menu dei Motori
11-02-2002, 05:58 AM
like bmw-Alpina?

11-02-2002, 08:38 AM
Yes ok, but they build their own brand at the same time.

Menu dei Motori
11-02-2002, 09:15 AM
completely own cars without a base of another car?

11-02-2002, 09:16 AM
I think so. They are the ZZ1, ZZ3, and finally the ZZ2

12-06-2002, 02:45 AM
So there was the Tomita tuning company which created the ZZ1 sportscar. It was built in the UK and actually those guys who have built the car a couple of years ago resurrected it as the Leading Edge RT190 and 230.
In the meantime the Japanese Tomita company was absorbed to Autobacs, a huge Japanese auto-parts company. So Tomita participated in developing the Garaiya but also they are offering their own tuned cars.
So today we have three cars:
- Autobacs Garaiya in Japan
- tuned cars from Tomita
- Leading Edge sportscars in the UK, reborn Tommy Kaira ZZ

More info could be found in Autoindex (

12-06-2002, 07:35 AM
that is a very useful site you have there.

12-08-2002, 09:35 AM
Yeah, very useful indeed!

12-13-2002, 04:48 AM
Thanks for the compliments. We are really trying - like we are now updating our Chinese section. I have even found a Cobra replica built in China - but it seems that was a one- off.
But there are several interesting makes, models which we feature in the near future.

Just make sure that you tell us all about the car if you decide to buy one. It really seems like a good buy especially if its around $90K.

01-06-2003, 10:52 AM
In the site though it doesn't actually mention the ZZ2!! Yes it is very cheap for a car of htis standard.

yeaaa jsb is back

01-07-2003, 03:16 AM

Thank you! :)

04-06-2003, 12:45 AM
Wow, this thread is back :)

ANywho, I think I was talking about noticing that it was LHD.

05-05-2003, 04:24 PM
Somehow it reminds me of a mclaren f1 ;P

Except turbo!

05-23-2003, 01:49 PM
The ZZ2 is out; we cant find anything on the ZZ2 because they changed the name to Garaiya. The car is also an AUTOBACS model ( yes the company that sponcers JGTC. If you notice on the back of the car there is a ASL that stands for AUTOBACS Sports car Lab. They destroyed the car its ugly now and its about 300 hp.

Need proof check here:

Today is a sad day in the sports car world...

05-23-2003, 01:53 PM
I hope im wrong but this is just too close to not be ture. This is why the concept didnt have the Karia grapes on it and had the upside down mitsubushi. The car cost $120,000 USD.

05-23-2003, 01:57 PM
This car was designed with the help of Tommy Karia. ( This is the ZZ2)

Dan S

we're all glad you're wrong!

the ZZII is not the garaiya and vice-versa

The ASL garaiya is a lightweight 2 seat Mid-Rwd aimed to compete with the lotus elise
Similar to the ZZII, it is Nissan powered, the garaiya packs an sr20ve (no turbo) so about 150 kW (not sure but like 210hp)
imagine packing an s15 sr20det in there sounds like fun
Garaiya is gonna cost $40-50k US, but i think it's going to england and Japan only... is it worth $10k more than a Lotus Elise??

they have a race version called the Gt300 Arta Garaiya
it's going to cost 20 million yen ($170K US) so nobody is really going to own one
carbon fiber all around, turbo charged!! scissor doors!! looks great
I saw it first in Super Street when they went to the Tokyo Autoshow
I was convinced it was a Lotus Elise
but the Super Autobacs painted on the hood
clearly meant this was going to be their new car of choice for the 2003 season

I'll give ya some credit though,
on one website, they called the car
the Autobacs Garaiya Rs-01
but that's just confusing

anyway we've established the ZZII is now called the Autobacs Rs-01
but nobody ever carried over the name
Tommy Kaira obviously doesnt make it anymore,so why ask for their site?

Don't let that picture fool you, there are definitely TWO (2) seats!

and here ya go, 9 quality pictures of the ZZII

the e-brake is engaged, so it's looks farther away
but it's still within arm's reach
duh where else would it be?

go here to see the Rs-01, and you can download a short movie of the
car going like 180 mph
of course it's all in japanese, but if you click on car info again, the pictures are proof

there are 3 separate cars

check out the performance numbers of th ZZII
the first is obviously top speed, which is 300kph
the second number is a 2.18, i wish that was the 0-100kph time!!! (anyone who can read japanese, correct me please)
(but on another site i saw the time was 3.3 seconds, which seems more feasible)

insane fast

Okay, so i've seen for this car for

200,000 AUd
60,000 pounds

but the LHD still confuses me!!!
I guess it's coming to America, and for $100K it's not a bad deal compared to it's rivals, the ferrari f50 and the mclaren f1

hope that clears some things up

06-02-2003, 01:34 PM
Ok glad to hear Iím wrong but what this is telling me then is that the ZZ2 is cancelled. Autobac bought Tommy Karia out is my understanding. I checked Tommy Karia's, Autobacs', and Autobacs Sport-car Lab's (ASL) Japanese text pages and translated them to English and found nothing on the ZZ2. The only information on the car is pre 2001. This leads me to believe that they canceled the ZZ2 or put it on the shelf indefinitely. Plus like I was saying before the ZZ2 is not a Tommy Karia model it is an Autobacs (ASL on the back and license plate Autobacs Sports-car Laboratory)

06-02-2003, 01:39 PM
If you give me a Japanese Site with new info on the car I can translate it for you.

06-02-2003, 04:06 PM
O.K., I know this isn't to important but, Tommy Kaira isn't a person, the name came from two tuners: Yoshikazu Tomita and Kikuo Kaira. Their tuning company has been around for years, Since 1987. They tune alot of Japanese cars. I know they designed F1 cars too.

Dan S
06-09-2003, 11:16 AM
ha, i'm so dumb i mentioned the website but forgot the URL

go ahead and check it out

looks like there is one article about the rs-01 that was written on 5/20/2003

if you can translate what it says, good deal!

06-25-2003, 05:16 PM
that car is damn ugly
