OK!!! I have some choices!!!blatch 11-18-2001, 09:40 PM Ok, here goes. Which one would you pick?? This is going to be my daily driver. I'm gonna have it up through college. I know a lot about all of these cars. 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V 199x (not the new kind) Honda Prelude 199x Acura Integra GSR 199x 300ZX TT 2002 Honda Civic SiR 199x Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4 199x Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T 199x Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX 1999-2000 VW GTi 1.8T 1998-1999 Honda Accord Coupe (NOT V6) 1996+ Nissan 240sx 1999-2000 Honda Civic Si 2001 Dodge Neon R/T 1993-1995 Mazda RX-7 That's all I can think of right now. Jay! 11-18-2001, 09:53 PM That's quite a selection!!! :eek2: You seem to have cars from two different classes, though. You might have a hard time comparing the 2002 Civic and the '90s 300ZX fairly. :hehehe: I've thought of a comparison like this many times, too. My top choice didn't appear, though: Toyota MR2 MKII (1991-1999). Were you just avoiding Toyota? I really like the 4th Prelude and the S14 240SX, but I'd drop both for a 3000GT or RX-7 or 300ZX... This comparo is gonna break my brain.... :bloated: DavidG 11-19-2001, 10:13 AM as a honda owner i voted for the Civic Si you can get the VORTEC SC and all you need is a pair of wings to fly. but if i had the $$$ i would go for a TT supra 6spd tranny :D you can get 750+hp to the ground out of the 2jz-gte engine:D G-Forces 11-19-2001, 10:15 AM Well if you can afford the insurance get the 300zx TT! Damn that's a nice car. The rest really don't compare. If you don't mind a little modding the S14 w/SR20DET conversion would be high on my list too. GTS-4 Ben 11-19-2001, 07:50 PM Go the S14 Silvia, or the Batman, or Supra.. only choices. igor@af 11-19-2001, 07:59 PM brand new Sentra SE-R might be a very good choice though... dejoux 11-19-2001, 08:19 PM Originally posted by GTS-4 Ben Go the S14 Silvia, or the Batman, or Supra.. only choices. Style, class and a ton of get up and go. G-Forces 11-20-2001, 01:41 PM Originally posted by YogsVR4 A VR4 is the top dog of that list. G-Forces 11-21-2001, 08:46 AM Originally posted by YogsVR4 Why is it people with underpowered cars talk about weight? :D ;) :D Cuz it's a killa! :D:p:D F20C 11-21-2001, 03:59 PM I still take a RX-7. gang$tarr 11-21-2001, 04:10 PM Originally posted by F20C I still take a RX-7. yeah but he needs the car till the end of college and he's 15 years old (i think) do you know how unreliable RX-7s are? that'll just be trouble, especially since it'll already be used blatch 11-21-2001, 05:05 PM yeah, i am 15. Rich 11-21-2001, 05:31 PM Originally posted by YogsVR4 Why is it people with underpowered cars talk about weight? :D ;) :D ahh, someone else who understands :D I also chose the 3000gt VR4 Chris 11-24-2001, 10:19 PM The VR-4. As long as it has been well-maintaned, otherwise it would be pricey to fix. I had a dream about it, actually. I dreamt hummerman lived in Lindsay, and he had YogsVR4 's 2 3000GT's and DeLorean. I went to his house to talk to him. He showed me the VR-4 coupe, and it looked pretty rough outside (unkept is probably better) He said he had bought it for 1600, and had spent 300 extra on it. So I gave him 1900 for it, and drove it away:) Nice, good dream:silly2: Rich 11-24-2001, 10:39 PM Originally posted by Chris The VR-4. There are very few cool modded cars, and very few exotics. When I mean exotics, I mean practically anything, Infinity,Mitsubishi, and anything else. Jimster 11-25-2001, 01:18 AM DO NOT get an RX-7 unless you own your own oil well and are prepared to foot the massive repair bills that are also constant Chris 11-25-2001, 11:00 AM Yah, rotor seals could go, so hello new engine! Detonation will kill it in a hurry. Morpheus XIII 11-26-2001, 07:17 AM Originally posted by gang$tarr I'd go VR4 that's what i voted for... since the RX-7 is REALLY unreliable What, and a Mitsu is really all that reliable? The apex seals on the rotors aren't really all that much of a problem to deal with. And you don't need to get a new 13B when the seals wear out, as Chris believes. You can just replace them with better ones. I think too many people are still brainwashed that the Seven is going to be a p.o.s. rustbucket in the long run... Go outside and count the number of older RX-7s there are. Plenty. A lot of the mkI Sevens are used for rally racing, as well. They fare well as daily drivers, can easily be extracted for more power, and have LOTS of replacement parts and aftermarket support. I do love the VR-4 as well (especially the final facelift), but I just wish it found a redesign somewhere down the line. The design seems a bit dated, both technologically and aesthetically. The RX-7 is far more timeless. To add to the weight issue: Power is much more easily added, than weight is lost. When you get to the cream of the crop (i.e. Formula One) weight is of the utmost importance. Chris 11-26-2001, 07:56 AM I just see 3500lb supras and 2000lb Geo Metros. Why cant the supra be lighter?? (I realize better suspension/motor/frame adds weight, but it cant be that bad) I'm not sure where I got my idea for the 13B rotor seals, but I know NSU's had to replace the whole motor. And an old RX-7 came in fourth place in the SCCA rally series this year. gang$tarr 11-26-2001, 10:08 PM Originally posted by Morpheus XIII What, and a Mitsu is really all that reliable? alot more reliable than the RX-7....... the RX-7 engine is notorious for being a huge hassle, and being reall unreliable. Olds88 on AF is a mechanic and he said he refuses to work on RX-7s cause they're just way too much trouble and so many of them break down F20C 11-27-2001, 04:18 AM There is a lot of problems with FD3S. However the joy of driving one outweights the other car in this selection. Morpheus XIII 11-27-2001, 05:43 AM Originally posted by gang$tarr alot more reliable than the RX-7....... the RX-7 engine is notorious for being a huge hassle, and being reall unreliable. Well, not that much more reliable. In the past, Mitsubishi (as a whole) has even been labeled by some publications as being the worst in quality of all japanese automakers in the U.S. True, the 13B requires constant attention, but what high-performance engine doesn't? Most gearheads open the hood at least once a week anyway, and with all the time spent under there for tuning, I doubt anyone who is half serious would mind additional maintenance duties as well. Like F20C stated, the net return for the end user is much, much more than your efforts put into the RX-7. Chris 11-27-2001, 02:19 PM A WRX is too expensive, I gather?? If not, I could add it to the poll. blatch 11-27-2001, 11:30 PM yeah, an impreza wrx is too expensive. but i forgot the Celica GT-S but i'm really diggin the 3000 gt. The only other one I know that makes significant power at that range is the fish pump mod. RazorGTR 12-08-2001, 06:50 AM I would say the VR4. For one it is 4wd so traction is not an issue. Also for you Zed fans have you ever looked under the hood or bonnet? For fu*ks sake there is no room to work on it! It is heavy and unreliable as the bottom end is weak especially the crank. gang$tarr 12-09-2001, 10:51 PM Originally posted by Morpheus XIII 3 bucks? Not bad. By the size of the stock turbos to get 320 factory HP I could only imagine the turbos are flowing as much as they can. What’s the stock boost on toughs?? 15PSI like an eclipse!! CHRIS200T 12-10-2001, 02:09 AM Originally posted by blatch hehe. bleeder valve = $3? right? uhhhh.. I seriously laugh at people that use home built $3 bleeder valves I seen a few people blow up there motors on thoughs. thay are super unstable.. RazorGTR 12-10-2001, 05:34 AM I made a bleed valve for my Skyline. Being a tool maker by trade it was not difficult. I just had no idea how to design a proper one is all. The bloody think made the wastegate open too early and would bring full boost on so late it was pathetic! Since then I purchased a Turbo smart one. I now know what I want and will make a proper dual boost one via a mechanical switching mechanism instead of electronic for now. I may look to make a full on electronic one later with some help of a mate who is an electrical engineer. So home made ones can cause you heaps of problems, I agree. Morpheus XIII 12-13-2001, 05:09 PM Originally posted by gang$tarr fish pump mod?!? You can rig a common aquarium 3-way fish tank pump valve (must have a screwable adjustment) for boost control duties on turbocharged cars. Don't know how reliable it is, as it is another homemade mod. I'd just stick to electronic boost controllers from big brands like HKS; they have manufacturer's warrantees and such, and you can monitor and set the dangerously higher boost pressures more accurately, rather than guessing and testing to find the right setting as with homemade or mechanical boost controllers. Bean Bandit 12-24-2001, 06:22 AM RX-7 needs maintenance but means a lot of fun!:bandit: YogsVR4 12-24-2001, 01:24 PM Originally posted by CHRIS200T Are you sure!! They come from the factory at 12.5psi. They can be taken to 16psi without any change in the fuel system. Put larger injecters in and you can take that right to 20psi with 550s or to 24psi with 750s. I've seen the turbos on the VR4 as well. So I am curious what lawn mower you have in mind? GS - this hit the nail on the head. Its a mod that has to be done carefully so you dont overboost. However, I know of many people who have done it and none of them have damaged their cars because of it. As you can see, I went with Greddy instead of HKS, but I prefer the big brands as well. Morpheus XIII 12-25-2001, 06:02 AM Greddy/Trust is just awesome. Them and HKS are my personal favs. crayzayjay 02-06-2002, 04:25 PM definitely the RX7. great looks, great drive. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
