Does anyone paint in colors other than what is recommended?

For instance, I am starting this 57' Chevy Corvette Street racer, and they have the body color as a lime green :apuke: I am going to paint it black instead. But I was curious to what others do in a situation like this.

90% of the time I go with something other than is reccomended, I love doing customs. Take the current monte I am working on. They suggest black, or white, I went blue.

I only follow the body directions if I am trying to make it look like one in a showroom, but for older cars, muscle cars, and for something like the 57' that you are doing, id say definitly custom, the lime sounds pretty gross too.

I agree, go with the black, or maybe a nice cherry red? depends on what colors you are most fond of.

I love blues and purples, but I think a 57' in black, or red would be pretty sweet.

If it was a race car i'd do it the same colours, but seeing as your doing something like a '57 chev i'd go with a colour you like.

Yeah I'm with the Pee Man there. Race cars I can't see straying from the body color but stock showroom cars should be whatever the hell I feel like. :)

If it's a race car, it is a sin to go with any other colour, though I'll try and work out what the material may be and paint is with something a little different if I feel appropriate! Or I'll use decal to simulate the material such as Carbon Fibre or Kevlar.
On road cars I'll reasearch the car using the net, and may paint something different if that's how it looks in my pictures.
I feel lost if I customise something, I am too used to following colours!
