tino is talking about generations, or car styles, there were the older more boxed looking ones, and the rounded bubbly ones

harrybeaver

Whats the difference between the 3 generations?

Beetles kick ass!

tino

1st generation was a little faster but not much but it was ugly in my opinion. 2g are fast and they look awsome. and mitsubishi screwed up with the 3g by makin it slower (no turbo).

harrybeaver
07-10-2003, 01:41 AM
is there a body style differece between the 2g and 3g?

kjewer1
07-10-2003, 03:56 AM
Yes. The 3g is the 2000+. Quite different from the 2g

Diamond Start Motors was a joint venture between chrylser and mitsu. The name comes from the diamond in the mitsu logo, and the star for the chrysler logo. The company dissolved in 94, but most 95s like mine still have the DSM tag on the firewall. The two companys still work together on a lot of cars.

Just FYI on the history of DSM, started in the late 80's when Chrysler bought half of Mitsubishi. The brainchilds were the T/E/L (Talon, Eclipse, Laser) Chrysler sold 25% of is share back to Mitsu in 94, the death of the Laser. However, Chrysler held onto the last 25% until 97. That's why the Talon's stopped in 97 and all 89-97 T/E/L have a DSM badge.

Just for those who were curious

I take that back if u take care of it ur 1gs will look awsome, but in my town theres alot of 1gs that ppl just treat as regular cars and as any car gets older its gona b in bad shape if not takin care of. The only body style i actualy hate is the 3g.

No way the 1G is ugly. I much prefer them to the 2G. The 2G is also heavier.

Actually, this isn't quite right.

Chrysler acquired about 1/3 of Mitsubishi from the early 1970s into the 1980s. In the late 1980s, Mitsubishi and Chrysler formed Diamond-Star Motors where each of them held 50% of the new company. Chrysler sold it's DSM holdings in October 1991 to Mitsubishi. In 1994, Chrysler sold all 23.25 million shares that it held of Mitsubishi. Shortly after the "merger" between Chrysler and Daimler-Benz, DaimlerChrysler bought about 1/3 of Mitsubishi again.

I don't believe that all Talons, Eclipses, and Lasers had "DSM" badges, since Diamond-Star Motors became Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America in 1995.

You'll never run a full second quicker than me. You have a lot of work to do to even get into 15's....... I wish you luck. The wagon was $27K , mostly because some factory installed STi stuff. And the rare Sonic Yellow color. Don't forget I also run mid 14's at 6000 FEET altitude. Lets see if I can get this pic in here.....me at 16 psi....

if you think about it, all Lasers WOULD have DSM badges, because they didn't even make it to 1995. :)

Denial of what ? I'd say 2G lovers are in denial , their cars are slower and heavier. Call it penis envy , if you like. 1Ger's have nothing to be envious about. We KNOW we are faster. And our cars engines don't break as easy. :thefinger But hey , if you like UFO styling , more power to ya. Personally , I think 2Ger's were smoking crack and lookin at the pretty colors when they bought those cars , but hey............

Up here in New england there are exactly 3 1Gs that are faster than my heavier slower 2g  There arent any 2Gs though... But they are easier to make fast, with less money. Ah well.... The ugly 1Gs have grown on me, and if I did it all again I would go 1g just for the cost difference...

Yeah , I paid $4700 for my '92 Eclipse ( with 106K ) Can you say dealer ripoff? It had a cracked exhaust mani , which I replaced , and then spent about $2500 in mods. 3000 GT fuel pump , Profec-B boost controller , S-AFC-1 , Autometer boost and A/F guages plus pod , Thermal-Research 3" catback ( Now residing in my Galant ) , K+N filter , and Greddy turbo timer. Plus a few other "ricey" non-power mods , such as PIAA driving lights and fake HID bulbs ( :loser: ) It was an unlucky car , though , nothing but engine problems. I parted it out and sold it as a shell last year to a guy who was gonna build it into a 10 sec car. Now I have the Galant , but I'd gladly trade it for an older turbo 1G .
