Hello everyone.

This car is done, so am I :)

It took like 40-50 some odd hours.
A huge learning curve for me

The biggest thing I learned was to change horizon reflections if need be of course it was to late when I realized it because I had already fixed the drawing with spray. Oh well.

As promised I will turn any one part of this car into a tutorial (very detailed I might add). For example a wheel or head light or grill. I was not able to take pictures of all the stages of this car because I had to give back the digicam I was borrowing I hope to buy myself one.

These pictures where taking with a 2meg/pixel camera, so the quality is not the greatest and I must say the original looks a lot better than these pics. I plan on buying a 4 megpix camera soon.

Also the negative picture was taken for fun. It looks cool.
Anyway thanks for checking it out.

Please you guys give some feed back on what part of the car you would like me to reproduce and show a step-by-step procedure.

One other thing many thanks to Chris aka FlyontheWall from the modeling forum, for providing me a reference picture. Thanks Chris you da master modeler :) and a good photographer

This is my scanned image w/ my new scanner. This looks better except you can see my splice :)

thanks:smile:

and heres how to do the car in the showroom thing:

1. select the car with the lasso tool and copy-past it in a new document in PS.

2. get a wood pattern and brush it to make the floor so that the car will have enough place to stand on.

3. now you just chose a color for the wall and brush it in the backround, and your done!

its a bit complicated if you dont know all of the options in PS, but im shure u will get it rigth sometime if u keep on trying.

hop this helps you,

Eslipseaudi, you are the winner. I will redraw the head-light showing every step.

I used 2B .5mm mech. penicl w/ a very little bit of 2H wood penicl for the far side head light (because it was so light and the lightest part of the driver sides (rht side) window.

I also used stumps for blending.

I will cover everything in my tut.

Also thanks Jetts, Dr. Ak, and Ghostchild and everyone else. :)

hey al, very nice job. 50 hours though:eek7:

one question, what size is the paper...yea i know i always ask, but is it just the same size paper as the stuff that you put in your printer.

oh, and you said you blended with a stump. what the hell is a stump.

:bigthumb:

asaenz
07-13-2003, 06:11 AM
The paper is 17x14.

A stump is a solid paper stick w/ a point.

http://store1.yimg.com/I/pearl_1744_152315131

You can get them at your local art store.

Did you see my 'Lead Ball' shading tutorial?
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t104303.html
I show how to use stumps

That is how I used them for the Skyline. I will be redoing the headlight showing all my steps. There is a trick on getting fine white lines I need to show you guys.

asaenz
07-16-2003, 05:14 PM
Thx for all the view and compliments.

Yes, I will do the headlight. The head light on my drawing is of a model car, so the headlight tutorial will be using a picture of a real (full scale) skyline so we all can see the detail and I can draw it better too.

I need about 2 weeks before I can get to it, sorry about the delay.
School, work, and wife got me all busy. :)

great job Asaenz it looks beautifull it also looks very very tedious this type of work could wear you out real quick. there is something that i noticed although i like it now i thought it looked very subtily bloated. Then i saw the reference is from a model and that could explain it. i really like it now cause it kinda looks tougher if thats possible with a skyline. now you just need to incorporate things that couldnt happen in reality my art teacher always told me if i wanted a photograph i woulda taken a picture. this isnt meant to be offensive in the least, just something to think about. i know you have the hands of a surgeon and your technique is flawless.
Josh

Hey folks,

Thanks for the compliments.

No offense taken Phaturbo. You and your art teacher are correct. I fully agree. This was a practice run to see how exact I could get. I changed some things but next time I will change more from the original picture. I had plans of doing a different reflection on the side which I should have done.

But you are right why simply copy photos there really is no art it that.
I have some ideas for truly making cars into art.

I really like the works I see here in the forum because they are artistic and not copies of photos.

Thx again Phaturbo.

Another thing about modifing from your references and even combining ideas from many reference picts is that it protects you from copyright violations some what.

Thx Madman159

I am only 12 yrs old......just kidding :)

I am 28 yrs old.

I read books to help with my shading technique and plus I pencil sketched during grade/middle/highschool. I am just about ready to start painting cars. I plan on selling prints of my artwork in a couple of years from now

The books have helped me a lot, I am not BSing you.

I am glad you are going to college I wish I could go back in time and go to college for art/graphic design. I am almost done with my degree in Information Management. Late start, get that college out da way, ASAP.

See I read all kinds of books about art, I even have a subscription to the Artist Magazine, just because a book or magazine doesn't talk about rendering cars I look for ways to apply what I am reading, to my car art works.

If you want a list of the books I have read I can post the links for you. They are scattered through out this forum.

Take care
