New truck research; Diff ratio opinion

Hi all; I'm happy to see a lot of the screen names I remember over the years are still here...

I have a 2002 1500 double cab 2wd with 240K miles on it. My original 4L60E lasted 215K miles, and I'm STILL on my original brake pads.

About a year ago, the wife decided we'd upgrade from tent camping to a trailer.

It's not seriously heavy; but it is towing 3000 lbs (with brake controller for trailer)

Now; we're looking into a new truck. Likely a 2016 crew cab std box.
No decision has been made on 2wd vs 4wd. I'm excited for the newer 6 speed transmission.

My real question is regarding axle ratios.
Can anyone give me any real feedback on 2wd v s4wd and what axle ratio you chose or any websites with good information?

This will be my daily driver (17 miles each way) on fwy for work, as well as tow vehicle for the trailer; so gas mileage is important.
3.08 rear axle ratio
3.23 rear axle ratio
3.42 rear axle ratio
3.73 rear axle ratio

Thanks in advance.

3.42 should be good for 3K lbs. that is a light load. also 2wd vehicle will also make it easier and better MPG.

what happens is you may want a bigger camper then what ?

with 4WD I would go with the 3.73.. less stress on the engine/tranny.
