From top left hand corner going right.

- Bead wire, 79 cents at hobby store, works well for wiring engines, or it can be wrapped around springs for a more-realistic look, plus it can be made into a spring then pushed together to form what looks like flexible rubber hose.

- Testors hobby knife. I've had this for over 7 years now and it just needs a ressharpen to be back to good shape. A must-have in this hobby.

- Tamiya wax. Undoubtedly the best wax for model cars, and well worth the money. Smells great, and is water-based (I think?) so it doesn't leave crud in panel lines.

- Kit Scratch Out - Basically for automotive paints, but is also used for removing scratches from paint. This is my secret a clear shine. Smells horrible, leaves stains if dripped onto carpet, but does the job, and will also clean up clear plastic VERY well. You can find this at Wal-Mart for about $1.99.

- Old t-shirt. Very good and handy cloth for polishing.

- Various grades of sandpaper - Can be used for anything you imagine. Must have.

- Ruler - To..measure..stuff. :eek7:

- Permanent red marker- Perfect for tail-lights. Leaves a clear red finish, and is quicker than paint.

- Testors Clear Parts Cement - Best stuff to use on gluing windows or parts that you don't want to be ruined by CA.

- Testors Model Glue - I've had this stuff for as long as I've had my hobby knife. The glue sets pretty quickly, is non-toxic, and the precision tip is very handy. A lot of people complain about the precision tip clogging, but it's nothing that a needle can fix.

- Elmer's Clear Blue Glue - This is also great for windows and parts that you don't want ruined, but it is not strong, and will melt when exposed to water.

- Mini Angled Pliers - Cheap alternative to sprue cutters. Has a reverse spring to keep the pliers open so it can be used much more efficiently. This came with a equal sized pair of needle-nose pliers for about $4.99 at Wal-Mart. Pretty good quality too.

- Mini Screw Driver - Not really sure of a single purpose for this, but it's nice to have and you'll end up finding something for it.

- Tweezers - Ok so these are really cosmetic tweezers to pull out hair, :cwm27: but they work well enough.

- Clothespin - Very handy for holding parts together to glue, or holding parts to be painted.

- Nail Clippers - I used these to cut parts off sprues before I got my angled pliers, but now I use them to trim the extra rubber off tires.

- Needles - Varying sizes and diameters. Good for cleaning out panel lines, or can be poked into body of model and painted to look like antenna. :sunglasse

- Tape - I use this office tape mainly for masking off straight areas like on engines and interiors. I currently don't have any painters masking tape, but that's what I use for bodies. (duh..?)

Just some pics of the most 'unusual' tools I use in most cases....

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/262480tools1.jpg

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/664416tools2.jpg

The same tools I use for diecast customization..The dremel is a top tool...The saw is some times the only way to open doors and do a curvy cut....
Other than that the most simple tools like the ligther(don't tell me you don't use it some times)and the gloves(there are some paintes that never waant to get off your hands...

Other than the tools above I have many spray cans(a lot of different brands,an airbrush(used only for special projects and graphics, lot's a paints, brushes, files and of course some x-acto style knifes...Not to add strippers, bags and boxes for storage, masking tapes....e.t.c. you know all that things...

well seeing this thread I dfecided it was finally time to tidy up my stuff.
So I went out and broght a decent size tool box to fit it all in.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/256667Dsc00005.jpg
Assorted bits and pieces.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/749232Dsc00006.jpg
Paints, wheels and larger things.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/608312Dsc00008.jpg
Paints.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/254823Dsc00010.jpg
and it all fits together in the 1 easy to carry box. (although it is begining to get heavy)

Also got a handy container for storing drying parts and anything ya don't want to get dusty
