2004 rodeo V6 5 speed

I hollowed out my catalytic converters hoping to increase mileage and performance, to no avail. my rodeo bogs down when i try to excel then it kicks in. My mileage still is bad. i have noticed a pinging type noise that i would compare to bad gas (I use premium) or off timing. any suggestions?
