2001 Park Avenue Windshield wipers quit working

Windshield wipers quit working. Wiper fluid still squirts. Fuse is good. Looking for any information for troubleshooting further. Thanks. :banghead:

Remember that there are two fuses for the wiper. One 10A WSW/RFA and one 30A WSW in the fuse panel at the end of the I/P.

Checking voltage at the wiper motor will help determine if the problem is with the switch or wiper motor/control board. There should be 12V at the yellow wire with the ignition on and 12V at the purple wire with the wipers in High speed position.

I will go back and check that. The car is an hour away at college I'm trying to get as much information as possible before I drive back out there.

The control/pulse board on the motor may have an issue (P/N 12487675). It's at least worth inspecting the connections, both into and out of the unit.

The motor itself could also be a problem, and is probably less expensive as a remanufactured unit than the pulse board costs. If you're really ambitious you could remove the motor and open it to inspect the brushes and commutator, but finding replacements could be difficult.

Of course, the motor needs to be grounded solidly, but if you measured voltage to the motor case that rules out that possibility.

I ordered the motor. Should have it in two days. Hopefully it's an easy removal and install.

It can be time consuming, mostly due to having to remove the push pin fasteners and air inlet grille at the cowl. The most difficult part can be separating the nylon swivel ball joint from the linkage arm on the wiper motor. Kent-Moore makes a special tool to separate the swivel, and you can rent/borrow one from some of the auto parts chain stores.

There is also a special tool to reconnect the swivel ball joint to the new wiper motor, but that is a little easier than separating the old one.
