Can anyone give me step by step procedure for dropping the oil pan in my 2003 grand am. I've heard user GTPDAD knows everything. Thank you

It's the V6. Is it possible to pull the pan without taking the whole engine out?

Evidently you can:
From AutoZone.com

3.1L & 3.4L Engines

Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
Drain the engine oil.
Evacuate the A/C system.
Remove or disconnect the following:

Negative battery cable
Accessory drive belt
Right front wheel
Right splash shield
Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Wheel Speed (WSS) sensor from the right subframe
Right lower ball joint from the steering knuckle
Right outer tie rod end
A/C compressor without disconnecting the lines
Evaporator-to-accumulator A/C line
Flywheel cover
Right side engine cradle bolts
Crankshaft balancer
Starter motor
Oil pan

This is perhaps trivializing the procedure, but, you get the idea.

and autozone forgets the hardest part, the trans to engine bracket!
w/o an air impact its difficult to get the leverage you need to break them bolts loose.

its a PITA IMO, not as easy on the 3.4s as the 3.1s.

it shouldnt take more than an hour to pull an oil pan, but they make it so difficult so the stealerships can rake in more dough! and make repairs a pain. :frown:

....I need to get this procedure posted in the tips and maintenance section. added to m list. lol
