Help before I spend a fortune at an unknown shop...On my way to visit Mom, the gear shift on my 1991 Accord (Automatic, 101,000 miles) started to stick between Park and Reverse. I have to push it pretty hard to get it to move in either direction. Once I get it to reverse, it's no problem. Any ideas? Is "Honda Dude" out there?

Trans. shift cable is binding & soon will break leaving you stuck in what ever gear it broke in.

So what do you do about it? How can it be fixed? I have same problem trying to get into park feels like I am forcing it way too hard.

Make sure thats its the shift cable & then replace with a new one. There could be a coin or some spilled drink making it hard to shift also.

So first it is best to take apart that shifting box and see if just cleaning that up helps. What usually happens to the shift cable that it needs replacing? does it corrode or something?

The shift cables gets dirty/corroded/rusted just from normal use. Yes the first thing I would do is make sure nothing is caught in there.
