I've got a 99 4runner with the 3.4 engine and it's gotten to where it wants to stall in traffic. It starts right back up. Runs fine on the interstate. No check engine light. I've changed the fuel filter, cleaned the throttle body, and cleaned the MAF sensor. Not sure what to do next. Any helpwould be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check the fuel pressure. May be your fuel pump. Also, check your Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor output.

I'll check those and let you know the results. Thanks for the advice.

Well, I got it fixed. Here's what happened. The day after I posted the question asking for help, I finally got a "check engine" light. I have no idea why it didn't come on immediately, but it didn't. According to the code, the maf sensor was a possible culprit. I changed it out and the problem went away. Thanks so much.

The MAF sensor will trigger a 2-trip detection code. It doesn't trigger immediately. For future reference, sometimes you can clean the wire inside the sensor and it will solve the problem.
