Scale Motorsport metal sticker rivets any good?

Continuing my question monologue :-)

I want to do a pimped set of rims with perimeter brake disc and a contrasting set of rivets all around the rim. It will take quite a lot of rivets though, almost 150 pcs... The rims are going to be black or maybe gun metal/metallic grey so I want golden rivets.

Now to the actual question... Drilling 140 holes seems a bit tough and then I found this set;

Anyone tried them? Do they stick properly? Don't want to lose any.

Other option is of course to go all in on brass rivets. I can just find sets with a pretty long pin, like 5 mm or so. Anyone know of round brass rivet set with shorter pin, like 2 mm?

Soon I'm off to do some building instead of disturbing you with questions :-)

Those are just photo-etched parts - they don't have any adhesive on them. You will have to glue each one in place, using a small drop of superglue, clear paint, white glue, or your favorite photo-etch glue.

I use those rivets all the time and they are NOT stickers, you must use a little glue to keep them in place.

I don't know any rounded brass or gold coloured rivets. For your project you could use something like this

http://www.hlj.com/product/t2m-1076/Aut

the pins are 2 mm long. the rivets are hexagonal, but they have a rounded flange.

Let us see the finished rims!

Ah, ok, I was under the impression that they had a sticky back. My bad.

There are a lot of brass rivets around, but all I find have long pins. They can be cut of course but that also means a lot of extra work, drilling 150 holes will sort of be enough ;-)

The rim is going to look like this;

When thinking it over, PE bolt heads would be the way to go. Looking at this Scale Motorsport sheet I see that they aremade out of nickel, first look made me think they where golden in color but they are silver. Looking around I can find some Lion Roar set that is also silver - anyone know of a set of brass ones? The sheets with rubber backing is perfect, cleaning up 150 tiny parts from fret edges will kill me.

Can I assume you are looking at 1/24 scale? You didn't specifically state that. Regardless, there are several rivet options that can be used across multiple scales. Check this link out for options:

Also, there are 1/35 scale resin rivets from Meng and Callibre 35 that can be applied to 1/25 scale and perhaps 1/20 depending on size.

The bike is 1/12, bolts are in a way cross scale but I figure them to be aprox 1 mm wide.

Top Studio and T2M have a lot of options for 1/12 bikes

I know but I'd prefer not to drill 140 holes and rather just glue some flat pe heads in place. I guess painting the scale motorsports ones above gold is the best solution.

Have you looked at Archer Transfers resin pieces?

Yes, I've seen them but don't really get it. Is it resin dot on some paper packing? Are they black as in the pictures?

More dark gray. I have some but have yet to use them.

Look at this one.

These are a kind of 3d decals. They have to be painted afterwards.

Yes, I spotted those but as I want golden bolts on black rims I must get some that doesn't have to be painted when mounted.

Hey Joel,

you can always spray a clearcoat over these rivets after putting them in place. This will protect them also.
