Timing Belt Replacement

I have a '94 1.9 and I need to replace the timing belt what is the best advice to get this job done. It is the timing belt. I was just praising my Escort on Friday morning 216k never quits and it quit on the way home. Got spark, opened the oil cap and no valve movement. So looks like I will be spending Christmas vacation with her!

Google says that's a non interference engine, so you shouldn't have any engine damage.

I also have a 94 Escort 1.9L wagon. The timing belt isn't too bad. The water pump is more difficult, because the working space on the passenger side of the engine bay is extremely limited!

It's not rocket science, so don't worry about it too much. Just bring a lot of tools and be ready for a serious pain!

Also pull and check all of your hydraulic lifters! The wrist pins like to wear and drift sideways out of their bore, which starts carving aluminum out of the head.

You'll need it to work in those tight spaces.

Late to the party. I did the timing belt on my son's 97 2.0L Escort last year. I recall that it took more time than it should've, but that always seems to be the case. But no major hangups.

Since your in there, may be prudent to replace water pump, too. I bought the kit with belt and water pump.

Hope all went (or will go ) well.
