2006 Desmosedici ItalyGP/Capirossi

I've been collecting detail parts and doing research on this lately and will begin the build in a couple of weeks. As usual, I start with a 'dry fit', making note of any poor fits or problems in the build order. I reversed the screw in the steering crown by adding styrene tubing, drilling out the top, and making it easier to assemble later on the jig. Ordered a HobbyDesign PE sheet in addition to the chain kit and Tamiya fork kit. I am trying a new jig attachment here to hold the fork alone. Let's see if it helps... comments/criticisms accepted

Wow. Nice project.
Is any source to buy the decals?

MarcoMoto

Thanks Jim! I'm excited about this one, planning to scratchbuild that clutch access hatch in the right fairing. I'll try to post often...

Thanks LykTeacherCY! The decal is from Studio27, bought from bestbalsakits.be in their Ebay store. Hope that helps.. Marco

In this work session, I've drilled and modified the engine and intake parts to accept bolts or wiring, filled and sanded the frame, and will prime it in grey, and later, white, before painting it Italian red.. I have also drilled out my fork parts for bolts. Comments/criticism/advice encouraged... Enjoy, Marco

You might consider doing a test and prime with either white or bright yellow and then shoot the red. The yellow really makes the red pop. I learned this years ago from some Japanese modelers who were building Ferraris and this particular Ducati. Just a thought...

MarcoMoto
10-16-2014, 12:56 PM
Now that is an awesome idea, Jim! I'm going with the yellow, as I have
alot of that leftover from the Honda build. I can't imagine white being
anything but pink when red goes over it. All lacquers are a bit transparent
from my experience. Thanks, Jim! Marco

Something else to try: Get three white plastic spoons and prime the back of them individually with white, pink or yellow. Then shoot the red. I think you'll be interested to see the differences in the final red depending on the primed color. 1:1 red Ferraris are primed with pink!

If you haven't built this kit before I think you will love it. Yes, It's Tamiya so should be, but it is a really nice kit to build. Your skills will undoubtedly make this one stellar.

Thanks, Jim!
I've painted all the engine parts now, added some PE,
and cables for throttle etc... Beginning to CF the airbox.
If anyone has wiring reference for this bike, post a link if
you can. I'd like to wire the ignition correctly... Marco

A mini update, just so you all know I haven't fallen asleep on this one.
I completed the frame, painting it first brilliant yellow, then Italian Red.
I am very pleased with the color, very rich and deep, without being too pale as T-47 would have been.
The rear mudguard needs clearcoat, and the rear shock is next. Most of the bodywork is in white primer
Comments, criticism encouraged.. Enjoy! Marco

Nice project Marco, I also work on this GP6

Be careful, lot of parts are different than Tamiya GP4. Wheels and exhaust of course, but also fuel filler, feet of fork, rear swing arm, rear mud guard, frame, dashboard, center of direction column, junction between side fairings and fuel tank...

Max Moto Modeling have done a T/kit for GP6. Not complete, but a very very good base for a project like yours.

Thanks Dexter, can you tell me where/how to buy the transkit easily??
If not, I am in trouble here, because I did not realize all the differences :-(
Because I am a beginner, I guess.. Marco
If I cannot acquire the correct parts, I must choose an 04 decal set.. sadly

Thanks, Andrew (I think..)
After being disappointed for a day, I've decided to finish the build, and have fun with it. I am too far along to go back and re-do everything. It'll be a GP4 with
GP6 markings on the fairing. Not historically correct. Oh well.. I will try a transkit when I have 6-8 months to devote to it.. This build will be done by Dec 31, 2014

IMHO, Unless you are really a stickler, don't fret it. I built it with the same stuff you have and it looks great to my eye. Its about the build, finish and final product as far as I am concerned. I suppose if you are entering it in some contest where the discrepancies are scrutinized you have an issue. Otherwise, enjoy the clean build.

Having fun is the best solution !
Without re-do everything, you can easily obtain a close match only with correct wheels.
Marchesini 7 spokes are available from Top studio or from Renaissance.

Thanks, Bob! I found a set after much searching...I will work with the kit wheels until they arrive, and I'll replace them in the final assembly... Much appreciated advice, Jim!

Hi Marco,

I've been following this build from the beginning but never placed a reaction.
Thanks for your advice about my Kawasaki.
You'll see how it turned out in a few weeks time.

So, now it's my turn to say something about this Ducati.
You are absolutely no beginner.!!
Very, Very nice build.
I also like the chassis you build your bike on.
It's a nice solution for not touching the bike.
I'm a huge Ducati fan and I can't wait to see the end result.

Hi All, I've completed the handlebar, and wheels, took several work sessions, but am pleased with the
result. I had some trouble with the HobbyDesign PE front discs, and had to heavily modify
the calipers to fit them. Instructions were not clear, and the discs needed to be spaced wider,
almost became a nightmare... Not sure if I'd use their PE sheets again, as they arrived covered
with thick gooey adhesive, very tough to remove! Bodywork, cooling, and exhausts are next.... Enjoy! Marco

I must also complement you on the jig, looks very impressive. Made it yourself?

MarcoMoto

Thanks Safetyfast, and Joel!
I've built my exhaust system, and created some tiny scratchbuilt hose clamps
from TopStudio fine bare wire, and PE boltheads. Made 6 of them, and added the
larger ones from HobbyDesign. Painted and added decals to the body panels, and
did a mockup so I can see the result. The white stripe on the right side of the tank
is not a perfect lineup, so might try to lift it, and pull it into position.

with this, my 10th build of my 'new modeling career'. Enjoy the pics…

Maybe one point of criticism, I would do a thin black or smoke wash on the chain to enhance the detail of the rivets

Thanks utzelu and ketje, yes the chain looks a little dry,
so next build I will do a subtle wash on the chain, great idea!
