Hobby Design Rivets

Hey guys,

I've been interested in detailing more of my upcoming models and looking into rivets to improve realism. There are many options to choose from but I'm lost with sizes and types I should choose.

These are the choices I've summarised,

1. 0.5mm Rivets (http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/aeif0sagbumsarru04ei.html)

2. 0.75mm Rivets (http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/lstg6kgr9rmvf6ulvkrv.html)

3. 0.75mm Tapered Head Rivets (http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/46560.html)

4. 0.75mm Half-Round Rivets (http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/33556.html)

The 3 upcoming projects are C1-Models 993 and 964 RWB kits and Aoshima's Rocket Bunny 86. Which rivet should I use and size preferred? Are there any examples you could share as I've search the net but to no avail.

Are they any advices I should take note? Should I drill the hole before or after clear coating the body?

Cheers! :)

Hi,

When you use a 1:12 kit (motorcycle) the bolt should be 0,5 mm
If you use a metric bolt M6 , its 6 mm : 12 = 0,5 mm
Bolt M8 , 0,6 mm
Bolt M10, 0,8 mm
etc, etc

If you use a 1:24/25 kit the bolts should be..

M6, 0,25 mm
M8, 0,3 mm
M10, 0,4 mm
etc,etc,

Search on the internet for reference pics if you want to know what bolt you should use.

Always drill the hole before you clearcoat the body.
I use a range of drills from 0,3 mm until 0,9 mm
You can order nuts , bolts, PE sets and much, much more at Hiroboy.com in the UK.

good luck.

I brought 0.4mm rivits for my 993 RWB, in a pack of 40 which is just enough!

More question, how the heck do you drill the holes straight enough and small enough that the shaft goes through but the rivet head doesn't??? Argh!!!!

If the shaft is 0,5 mm (bolt M6 metric) I drill a 0,6 mm hole.
The rivets head is always bigger then 0,5 mm so you should be save if you drill a 0,6 mm hole.
Don't make the hole to big then you will have a problem.

Drill the hole very carefully and take you time!!
A 0,6 mm drill is fragile!!
Use tweezers to put them in place.

BUT TAKE YOUR TIME!!! DON'T RUSH THINGS
