Beautiful would you realize a big scale model?

Capri-Schorsch
08-21-2014, 10:12 AM
Hi Nino,
is 1/12 scale big enough?
Thats what i plan to do with the Porsche.

Hi Nino,
is 1/12 scale big enough?

Hi guys,
Sorry but i have to cancel this project.
There are massive problems with the designer and the printing.
So i must bring it to an end before it has began.
Sorry!

Hey guys,

i will restart this Porsche project now.

Its not a 3D print,its a milling job now.

Here is a pic from the 3d-model so far.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3664326137393030.jpg

Now its not a 962,its a 956 that i want to do.
This is the start for a handmade car with less detail than before. But i will made this for sure.

Thats for now.

Hi,
some news to show here.
The data was scaled down to 1/12.Than we created a CAD file for the milling machine.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6566663364346637.jpg

Than we removed every part that is not possible to mill.
So they are the wiper, mirrors and the rear wing. The wing will be made in another step.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6631326635343537.jpg

We created a small groove where the wing can be put in.Dont know how to say in english?
Some parts were closed and on the bottom we made some wheel adjustments for later.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3063303633333734.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6536323864353039.jpg

Here is the blank material for the milling machine.
Thats the first step. When we converted the files to CNC ,everything can start.

Christian

I am nearly sure I've seen years ago a 956/962 in 1/12 in resin in ebay. No idea of the manifacturer, but was a great beast.

Yes Paolo, there was some years ago a curbside Porsche. On hapico.com got lots of pics I think it was from California Model somewhat? But long out of production and not available anymore. regards Christian

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3866303939333533.jpg

The construction is done now. Some holes were closed and some parts are new designed. The windows are now constructed with a edge around to glue the sheet in.The stand for the rear wing are removed. They are so thin that cant be milled.Right now i dont know if i will cast it or only made a plastic template to glue it in?
Will see.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3835343038303830.jpg

This is a pic from the whole model based into the ureol block for milling.
Right now we figure out which tools we will use for the milling progress.
It looks like we only find some time at the middle of November for the milling. We got lots of work and no capacity at the moment on our fine milling machine.
So i got some more time to work on my Ferrari 512S .Not so bad.

Still a long way to go.The bigger steps are done. Now its up to very small programs with very tiny milling cutters.Up to 0,5mm diameter is the smallest we want use.
Thats all for now.

Capri-Schorsch

Hi Mike,at the moment everything is standing still.

Too much work for the mills and not enough time for my constructor to create the last bunch of cnc files.
Once everything is done we have to wait until our boss is on holiday.
Mhmm.....it took quiet a while. That was not expected when i started this project.
I think i have to learn programming by my self so i dont have to ask every week my cnc guy. That is frustrating.
Sorry!
The material i use i called Ureol
http://www.esterhammer.de/produkte/blockmaterial

Its a prototyping material for professional use.

Please, could you tell the approximate overall milling time ?

Capri-Schorsch
04-16-2015, 10:13 AM
The partly milled Porsche that you can see on the pics was about 3 hours on the first day and half an hour on the second day.
Overall 3:30 h milling time from the very first step to the actual level.

I stopped the CNC tooling, because my designer didnt find some time for me since November last year.So enough is enough and i started it now by my hands without any mill.

But more pics when i got it back at home again.

I agree - very nice! I recognise the reference books from my own collection too, but what's the second one down, 'Racing On'? Is it purely about the 956 (like the Joe Honda book) or is it a mixture of cars?

Looking forward to seeing this one continue.

it is possible Porsche AG itself never made photo books about their racers so important for the history of motorsports?
With the care they always have around everything they do it could be just stunning stuff.

I love such books too, just cant stand any longer to pay for a nearly stricly japanese text only. Already did it in the past with millions on model graphix, model art, steel art, hobby japan....

After a week holiday in beautiful Austria i went straight back to the casting of the porsche.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6433663133633935.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6565373435393666.jpg

First step was to use a pencil and put some silicon in the holes and on the whole surface. So there should no bubbles on the outside anymore.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3034376339323230.jpg

After this i put the foam a bit on an angle to provide it for bubbles. At the end i put it horizontally and fill it up with silicon. The most difficult part are the wheel house.I will see tomorrow if there bubbles or not.

The inner part is ready for the next step. I got 3,5mm layer of wax sheet now.On the edges its a bit more for stability. http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6462643633303239.jpg http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3534623464303963.jpg http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6530363838626463.jpg These ureol sheets are for the inner core where i use fast resin to cast it. regards Christian

Done more than i thought today. So the inner core was casted.
The core is not done with machine,i was faster than i expected and so i made it with a saw and my hands. Its not a beauty, but it works.
Tomorrow i will set some locating pins to hold the core on the right place. And some screws to secure the core with the two retaining strips.
I choose a hard resin for the core because i can always sand it or use putty when the core is too thin or too thick.

Cant wait to get to the next step.

Step by step to unpack the core from the wax sheets. The first thicker layers are easy to remove. But the last thinner one sticks together with the resin.Hard to clean it up.

But at the end i got it ready to cast the first Porsche.
Now i have to wait until tomorrow morning.
Hope everything worked well.
Crossing fingers!

And this morning i unpacked the Porsche.

This is the inner core made of resin. It looks very rough, but i wanted to test it first before i made a smoother surface.

Looks very good,i think.Every detail is casted well and the surface is smooth.Perfect!

A look under the body shows the rough surface from the inner core.I will change this next week when i am back at work with putty and sanding.
Here you can also see the air bubbles under the naca ducts.I hope with a different way of fill in the resin i can minimize them.

A test fit of the rear 3 parts wing looks also good in my eyes.
So the body work is done so far.Next will be the tire/rim combi and i had to thought about how to make the chassis.
