Advices for building an Accurate Miniatures Corvette Grand Sport

Hello to everyone.
This is my first post here: I'm Blackm, from Italy.
Even if I've never written anything, it's a long time since I started reading and appreciating this forum, as it's full of hints and suggestions.

I want to build a model of Corvette Grand Sport, produced by Accurate Miniatures: I have the 5001 kit, the one that reproduces the GS that raced in 12h of Sebring 1964 (white one, number 4, chassis 005).

I also got some additional detail sets (HRM, pe parts).

First of all, I just wanted to ask you if you have any particular reference for it, as I'd like to build it as accurate as possible (even if I haven't neither decided if I'm going to paint it in white, or go for a non-storical blue/white number 4).

I know there is a very interesting book (by D. Friedman and L. C. Paddock), Corvette Grand Sport (Motorbooks Classics), but unfortunately I can find it only for really high prices (around 100$ for an used one, 200$ for new ones).
Any of you knows where to find it for a reasonable price? Even an e-book, or pdf, would be fine.

Plus, 5001 kit is basically 5000 one (GS 003) with different decals. Wasn't the GS 005 different under some parts from the other one?
In some pictures (of Sebring) I saw two oil coolers on the back, instead of central one reproduced in the kit (that, in fact, is present on the 003).
Am I wrong? Are there other noticeable differences?

Thank you in advance.

Be sure to fill in the bottom of the frame rails. They were molded open for some production reason.

Hello from Spain, I have that book, very good book and i built this kit some time ago, one thing, depends on which version you decide to build, (mine was the 1964 Sebring) I realized that the decals were wrong at the edges of the white circles, black in the kit and they were actually red.

I bought a couple of years ago the book here:

I hope this still available, and at the same price!

Thank you for welcome and replies.

True, tubular frame is molded with some slots. AM itself explains, in the instruction sheet, why there is that gap.
Seems to be due to the plastic injection process (they say is the result of retaining the piece into the molds while it cools in order to prevent it from warping, and can't be avoided, unless going for a multi-piece frame).
Will have to fill it with some putty.

Thank for the book link. I'll see if I can get it.
Pictures are not in colours, right?
Your kit was the 003 GS (blue with white stripes) or the 005 one (white) ?
Actually the latter is portrayed in only a few pictures, as it changed livery later, so it's pretty hard to spot small details.
How did you solve the problem of edges?

Get the corrected upper control arms, and Headers from Historic Racing Miniatures, Also replace the kit decals, they are NOT Opaque enough to look correct.

I'm sorry if it took me so much time to reply.

First of all I want to thank everyone who answered me.

I already got the resin parts (a-arms, exhaust tubes) in order to improve fitting, as well as the p-e set.

Only thing missing is the decal sheet (apart from correct number plates, all the other emblems provided are marshals' stickers?).

And the book, as I could't find it yet, neither the physical copy, nor a pdf (scan, or ebook).

The car pictures on Fotki portrait a different Grand Sport, but it's still useful as a reference for the engine.
