I see people selling chips on ebay that supposedly boosts up your horsepower. Is this for real? If so, my question is, how can you get one that will be undetectable? I just don't want to get caught at a dealership when i do my next oil change, LoL:lol:

AVOID THAT EBAY CRAP!!! It's a $.10 resistor that just makes your engine run rich by fooling the air temp sensor. You're asking to make your exhaust valves and everything downstream including the cats run HOT as the excess fuel gets dumped down and burns off on the way.

The only REAL "chip" is offered by Jet Performance. It's not a "chip" but a complete ECM computer swap/upgrade and is available here:

Not true, you can purchase the vortec mod which is a box that regulates spark curves for you engine for your x, its only about 3 inches by 2 inches and you can hide it anywheres, it taps into your iat sensor, pcm, and ecu maximizing your spark curves, supposedly giving your x 15hp. I havent dynoed it yet so not sure on definate hp increase but you can feel the difference, stay away from the resistors. LOL

You're better off getting the K&N Air Charger and an aftermarket exhaust. Those are tried and proven increases in HP. Chips are shaky at best and will get you into warranty problems.

Sorry to inform you; but, the Vortec mod you praise so highly is just a black plastic ABS box with a resistor soldered in place which bridges the two wires together. Take the Vortec sticker off the box to locate the single screw that holds the box together if you don't believe me. You can get everything (except the "Vortec" sticker  ) at Radio Shack for about $3. (Go to Radio Shack and you will find the exact same plastic box they use there. It's called a mini project enclosure) That "Vortec" sticker sure must be expensive, for what these guys are selling the Vortec "module" for.

What gets me peeved is this... the Vortec instructions tell you to cut the two wires going to the IAT sensor, then connect the Vortec module between the two wires (that's 4 connections), when all that is really required is to use a pair of 3M "quicksplice" connectors to connect the resistor to the two wires going to the IAT sensor. You really don't need to cut through the two wires completely at all, since all you are doing is inserting a resistor in parallel with the IAT sensor.
