Is it necessary to change this part in the corolla? I have over 250,000 miles on my corolla already. what happens when it goes bad?
thanks

It is not necessary to change canisters because of mileage. They go bad when their valves don't operate correctly or they have loose hose connections or they crack and leak in various ways. When they have a problem, they throw a DTC code if it is a '96 or later. If there is doubt about its function and your car is a '95 or earlier, you can remove the canister and test it with air pressure in various ways.

I have heard of canisters getting contaminated with gas by repeatedly overfilling your gas tank to the top of the neck. I don't think this is very common.
