The only evos that are eligible for importation are the LHD EVO 7 and 8.and to purchase them you have to go through evolution imports for that.like if you want a skyline u need to go through Motorape i mean Motorex.WWW.EvolutionImports.Net

there is a guy here in NY who is selling a JDM RHD worked EVO5 GSR.with 35k KM/H.and he got it street legal some how.his name is LEE and here is his email addrerss

hey thanks i have known that for awhile but he wants like 30k which is a lot for a used 1998 evo. but it is rhd and street legal... damn my broke ass! lol

oh man trying to import an evo is freaking hard man.
i seriously want to import an evo 6 from japan and ive been looking through import dealers, laws and customs... all i have to say is damn. :comprage1
but hey im not giving up. once i get the money, im gonna go for it. Get a deal with an rl liscened dealer and hope i can get it w/o much hassle. lol unless i can find a cheaper way to get one..... :frown:

an alternative route would to do a VIN swap
07-10-2003, 07:47 PM
if you're looking for a cheap way to do this, forget it. yeah the evo's are dirt cheap in japan, but even the VIN swap method will cost you the price of a salvaged mirage. and the obvious RHD to LHD swap you'd have to do (the DMV people are stupid, but not that stupid). you have to swap the firewall too. importing any car requires alot of research, time, money and continued investment (flying in parts). unless you're ready to put in the effort (and dough) save yourself the heartache and just buy something here you can afford.
i used to drive a street legal 6, and the only way i could was it had a MFG plate on it
07-10-2003, 07:51 PM
whats a mfg plate? and did u sell that evo 6? if so can i get a hold of the person u sold it to and maybe send them an offer to buy the car. thanks
07-10-2003, 10:29 PM
MFG is manufacturer's plate. the car belonged to mitsubishi motor sales USA so they could slap one of their plates on it and drive it without any DOT or EPA. but the catch is its here on a temporarly import bond so it 1) needs to eventually leave the country or 2) must be crushed. i used to do PR for them. i think its still in their fleet but they could never sell it to anyone in the USA.

thats gay damn man! but do u guys think like 25k is to much for a street legal evo 5?
07-10-2003, 10:58 PM
could u actually drive that car on the streets legally!?
07-11-2003, 02:02 PM
$25K for a legal evo 5? or one in japan??

so long as its for "testing and evaluation" purposes, a manufactuer can drive whatever they want with a MFG or DST plate (much different from a run of the mill "dealer" plate). that's why you've got nissan Xtrails, toyota centurys, alfa 156 and Evolution 7's running around town. heck, they can drive something like this which doesn't meet any DOT or EPA...yet
07-11-2003, 06:15 PM
the 25k thing is considering the car is in the states and street legal
07-11-2003, 08:22 PM
07-12-2003, 01:43 PM
yea 30k is too much.:frown:
07-12-2003, 03:30 PM
if i wanted a evo 5 RHD w/mods and i can get it registered.ill pay the 30k.he did what he had to ,to get it titled.all the hard work is done, all u have to do is just register it in your own state
07-13-2003, 01:09 AM
25k will proboly be the amount ull need to have a legal evo. I never did it so im not 100% sure. i looked at a couple import dealers and they said it would cost around 8k to convert and u have to pay for the car and ship it over here which would be about 14k or so for the car. and then theres also the waiting period for it.
i dont know if any of the things are true but the way dealers told me about it, it seems this way.
07-13-2003, 01:43 PM
the importers do conversions on the car!? like LHD conversion? well i found a friend that could get me a evo 5 in the states and legal for 25k without conversions (i will have RHD)
07-13-2003, 02:10 PM
well from what i heard it depends on the dealer. Some will and some won't.
yea id want a RHD car too and ill get one once i have the money.
but i dunno u should reseach and look around with some import dealers and see how much it will cost with them. maybe u can get a cheaper deal.
07-14-2003, 03:54 PM
so your getting a evo street legal in the states as soon as u get money?
07-14-2003, 05:16 PM
im going to try. Unless I can pay in installments in reasonable payments
and like i said before "try" If i can do it, im going to get it. If i cant... im gonna find another way to get one.
07-14-2003, 08:42 PM
yea thats pretty much how i am! and if i cant get one in the states i have even been considering moving to europe. lol pretty crazy for a car. but im very passionate about evos
07-14-2003, 09:50 PM
You and me both brother.
luckily for me i can speak some japanese and full korean so i can move to japan or something. Good thing for family in other countries :bigthumb:
07-14-2003, 10:29 PM
yea your lucky! hey maybe when we get enough money we could buy our evos together and ship them together for cheaper shipping? or something? if you would like to do that i think we should get to know eachother better! hi im tyler lol if u wanna talk just IM me at Iwillsnwbrd4life thats my AIM name
07-15-2003, 10:14 PM
shipping the Evo 4-7 its gonna be hard, its jus goin to be like importing the Skyline GTR, jus that it costs ALOT less.
07-15-2003, 11:22 PM
actually importing a gtr is easier..i think.... they have a company they just imports skylines.... well have have one for evo's too... but not 5's or 6's.... but yea costs...shipping....converting.... BlaH :sly:
hehe whts up Tyler, Im richard. Im not sure youd want to wait for me to import one. I just recently bought a Wrx.. best sub for an Evo... so itll be a couple of years. :banghead: :angryfire: :crying:
07-16-2003, 03:03 AM
hey richard do u mind if i call u rich? well anyway im in no hurry since i am currently converting my mirage into a evo 5 and i just bought a turbo kit and got it installed  so im not in a big hurry but good news! i found a evo 4 for 13k and shipping for the car from japan to la is only 1500! that a great deal a evo in the states for only 14,500 but that doesnt include epa or dot or licensing or registration.:frown: but still a great deal! just wanted to share that with u
07-16-2003, 01:23 PM
