As I was stopped at a light yesterday, I saw a familiar looking snout sticking out at me from a side street... Pulling around to investigate, I realized it was an R33 Skyline, with a very large intercooler in the front grill. It was black, and it was insured...

Anyone else see this bad boy driving around? I figured it had to be a motorex car...

Probably was a MotoRex. There used to be a registry that listed the number of registered Skylines in the USA, along with the name of the domesticating company and the location of the car's registration(down to the city) but I think it was taken down because of privacy issues. I might actually have a copy of the registry on my home computer, I'll check when i get home. Not that it will help you in any way, but you could at least know the specifics of the car(year, trim, company, etc.). I think the list was taken down last summer so it's not too awfully old. And if I remember right, there was someting like 54 registered and domesticated Skylines done by MotoRex. Another 30 or so done by Omega, and others by less known importers. I could be way off on the numbers though, I really don't remember:frown:

I will challenge it with the almighty Saturn Vue, with it's thunderous 4 cylinder, and 5 wide gears ;)

Depends...Domestication of a JDM Skyline by Motorex goes for about $25k. This is assuming you already have the car in the USA. To buy a domesticated Skyline from Motorex can cost anywhere from $50k - $100k depending on the car(year, model, trim, options, etc.)
Omega costs less, although they don't have the service or reputation of Motorex. Prices for JUST the car range from $11k for a 90-92 GT-T R32, to $75k for a 98-99 GT-R R34. From there, you have to pay shipping from Canada to the US because that's where they ship to(about $2k), and then you have to pay the domestication fee, which ranges anywhere from $7k to over $15k. So you could in theory pick up an older Skyline for around $20,000USDM.

All info above from http://www.omegaskylines.com/ by the way. I know a guy who bought one from them here in MD as well, who's told me that the prices on the site are correct and the process is accurate as well.

All things considered, its more cost effective to just wait for Nissan to bring that bread box to North America.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Especially since there are rumors that the US Skyline will be under the Infinity badge and...get this...sport a 4.5L V8 pushing ~400hp:eek::biggrin:
If this happens, it gets the SELF-Certified Seal of Approval:bigthumb:

Yeah i know who drives that car, he was affiliated with Garage SPL (which is now closed) they had 5 Skylines, 1 Blue R34 VspecII, 1 Silver R32 Vspec, 2 Silver R33 GT-R Vspec, and 1 Black R32 GT-R. There are a few other skylines in the seattle area, iv seen a Purple one with some Motorex stickers on it. As well as a few Stock 32s, and one Black R32 GTR that is a Replica of the Night Kids R32 GT-R ..it even has damage to the front right headlight..looks like a drifted into a guard rail or something..looks really messed up..but thats the beauty of High performance japanese cars..you will get respect for battle damage.

LOL @ "battle damage" The only reason I give battle damaged car's respect is because I can sympathize with the owner on not having the cash to effect repairs. other than that...TWO THUMBS DOWN for damage on a car, rather it be on purpose, through racing, or from a rogue shopping cart out to cause consternation amount grocerystore-goers:tongue:

But you do have to admit, if it has battle damage through racing..the driver must do some crazy things in order for a AWD Skyline to lose control. Control and power balance is everything about skylines, Its not the car that i give respect to, its the driver, because hes willing to break his limits as a driver and not worry about the exterior of the car, but the performance of the car. If he is willing to drive a skyline that way in the states, Especially in seattle where it rains a lot after hot days he must have learned and aquired some skills..and the damage shows that.

Now tell me this, assuming that you have the cars listed on your info. Your 1995 Chevy Camaro Z28. If it was nice and glimmering as if it was brand new, and had low miles and performed like a there was no tomorrow. Would you drive it in the rain at speeds over 80mph in a windy twisty road? Risking to destory every little peice of your new car if you even make the slightest error in steering, shifting, or breaking?

GT-Rs are relitivly expensive since they are imported, if your willing to destory your GT-R like that, then money is the last thing on your mind, because you probably do have enough money to repair it. I mean common..you import a GT-R and expect it to be stock? Usually GT-R owners upgrade their cars the first month of purchasing it. If not the first year atlest.

I understand where you come from, not trying to flame..i just wana let you understand where i come from when i say i give respect to battle damage.

Actually Self, MotoRex and RB Motoring are the only two who know and can legalize a Skyline for the US. Omega is a wannabe and dreamer as are the rest at this time. Omega claim so much including sending 32's, R33's, and R34's to Canadian customers which is completely false, so wouldn't believe them as far as I can throw them. If they do have legit skylines they have had MotoRex work their magic.
This has been a hotly debated issue not only here but on other various forums including the Skylines Downunder forums.

Sean Morris "aka tyndago" who is one of the former creators of MotoRex and now is with RB Motoring can also confirm this.

Really? LOL. The first thing I do when I get off work is going calling the guy in MD and calling him a liar, haha. He does have the Skyline, that I'm sure of b/c I've seen it. He's the one who originally told me about Omega and said they're the people who took care of getting his for him.
What you're saying about domestication may be completely true though, I don't really know. Omega definately doesn't convert Skylines. Reading back over my post I made it sound as if they were the ones who did the work for the $7k - $15k. What I meant was that they would get you the car, and you'd have to have it converted which would cost you that amount. All Omega does is take your money and purchase a Skyline and have it shipped to Canada. From there it's on you as the customer.

Very nice! If you don't mind my asking, what part of Seattle are you in? I'm in Tacoma right now, staying with my gf :)

Ok well that would make sence about purchasing one through Omega then, but hell for that matter you could go through the importing yourself and have it deliever directly to MotoRex. Why pay someone else to do it then mark the prices up?
. Currently MotoRex is the only one with the certs to do the work. Others are working on it but somewhere I had information that MotoRex was granted sole complier for so many years. When that is up I don't know but once it is I am sure there will be a mad rush by other companies so they can jump on the band wagon. The only problem is the GTR population in Japan is drying up. At least the good ones for sale.

As far as canada is concerned check this.
If you have questions and live in Canada go to this site JNS Imports (http://www.jns-imports.com/) and check them out.

While you will be able to get an R31 in Canada forget about the R32 or newer. :)

Some guy had a Silver R33 at New Again Auto about a month ago. I parked, got out, walked past it into the store. Suddenly I ran back and drooled for quite a while. :boink:

BTW, get us some pics of that bad boy!

Dirt Cheap. My broker just started a new project and he want's me to get help him out in the NW's and it really doesn't matter where you live if you are exempting it. I can do the conversions but it will cost you. I am looking to bring them in for "race/show purposes only" using the greatest of loopholes known to man. NHTSA exemption. My cars will come highly tuned and highly modified so beware!!! I can get pix even footage of my guy taking em out around a little island in the south pacific (sorry no details-super secret samurai shit). Call me directly anytime day/night if your seriously interested. It has to be ca$h deal obviously so I hope you have a good J-O-B.

Please, no emailz or pm's.

Look at these prices!!!!! Rediculous!!!!! Sometimes I can get em for 1/3rd of that price and they are highly modded.
