Engines in AccordsPimpin Yoda 06-26-2003, 10:02 AM I know that the V6 Accord has a VTEC engine in it. But does the 4 banger EX or LX have a VTEC in it? A friend was saying they did but I wasnt sure if that is true or not. If they do what type is it? bckwld03 06-26-2003, 02:26 PM the ex accords has vtec and the newer ones have vtec in all there motors. what do u mean by whats the difference? tyrell92 08-13-2003, 06:59 PM does the 1995 v6 accord have vtech? esp 08-13-2003, 07:01 PM Originally posted by tyrell92 does the 1995 v6 accord have vtech? no it doesnt come with a vtech phone in it. but it does have a vtec motor in it tyrell92 08-13-2003, 07:09 PM i have the 1995 lx v6. it doesn't feel like it has vtech in it. she moves though. esp 08-13-2003, 07:17 PM thats because you dont have vtecH you may have VTEC tho, Varible time and electronic lift control. Dont know where the ell you got the H from. Stupid ricers think that the vtec is the god and it is the best thing since sliced bread. tyrell92 08-13-2003, 08:39 PM how can i tell if my car has vtec? im from hartford and the whole city is driving either accords or acuras! ShwedishFish 08-13-2003, 08:44 PM try opening up the hood and if it says VTEC in big letters right in the middle, theres a good chanceit might be a VTEC engine, just maybe though tyrell92 08-13-2003, 08:53 PM thanks for the help, asshole darkaccord 08-13-2003, 08:53 PM how can i tell if my car has vtec? Originally posted by ShwedishFish try opening up the hood and if it says VTEC in big letters right in the middle, theres a good chanceit might be a VTEC engine, just maybe though  F22B2 - No Vtec F22B1 - Vtec C27A4 - No Vtec Plastic_Fork 08-13-2003, 10:56 PM The newer Accord sedans and coupes both ('98 - '02) all have SOHC VTEC engines except for the DX model which is non-VTEC (V6 has SOHC VTEC). For anyone wanting to know if their car has it, I have found going to Honda's website (http://www.hondacars.com/certified/library.asp) is good for car specs if it's a '98 or newer year since they only keep the past few years' models specs on their page. If it's older than that, try looking up at Kelly Blue Book online (https://www.kbb.com/). Just pretend you're pricing a car and it'll tell you if it's VTEC. Won't get much more in-depth than that though. If you want more details than that, hit Honda's site for specs. If it's an older year than what Honda has in their repository of specs, then go to Google. accordztech 08-14-2003, 01:52 AM hehe i can spell vtec..look at my user name LOL streetrcr45 08-15-2003, 03:06 PM i got a stupid question...lol... what does sohc stand for??? is it single over head cam or something?... cause i know dohc is double over head darkaccord 08-15-2003, 09:38 PM i got a stupid question...lol... what does sohc stand for??? is it single over head cam or something?... cause i know dohc is double over head You are correct. choiberg 08-15-2003, 10:44 PM I just purchased an 03 Accord, here is the spec's on the VTEC's for the 2003 Accord lineup: Coupe: -LX: DOHC i-VTEC (in-line 4) 160 Hp -EX: DOHC i-VTEC (in-line 4) 160 Hp -LX V-6: SOHC VTEC 240 Hp -EX V-6: SOHC VTEC 240 Hp -EX V-6 6spd: SOHC VTEC 240 Hp Sedan: -DX: DOHC i-VTEC (in-line 4) 160 Hp -LX: DOHC i-VTEC (in-line 4) 160 Hp -EX: DOHC i-VTEC (in-line 4) 160 Hp -LX V-6: SOHC VTEC 240 Hp -EX V-6: SOHC VTEC 240 Hp I was told from the dealership when going over the engine that the i-VTEC now has a timing chain vs. a timing belt in them now.... (about time) streetrcr45 08-16-2003, 12:12 AM so DOHC is for 4 bangers and SOHC is for V-6's  ??? d16a6crx 08-19-2003, 08:15 PM thats because you dont have vtecH you may have VTEC tho, Varible time and electronic lift control. Dont know where the ell you got the H from. Stupid ricers think that the vtec is the god and it is the best thing since sliced bread. If you want to be picky, VTEC is Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control. choiberg 08-19-2003, 11:23 PM so DOHC is for 4 bangers and SOHC is for V-6's  ??? In this case, I believe it is due to the fact that it is an "In-line 6 cyl." The V-6 in our Odyssey is a SOHC and it is also a 6 cyl. The 4 cyl. that was in my Civic was a SOHC and had been that way until 1999 when they introduced the Civic Si which became the first DOHC in a Civic (US). I don't know they logic, maybe it is decided on the day of the week the car goes into production... 94tegRS 08-20-2003, 02:58 AM ok, the SOHC and DOHC doesnt have any significance with number of cylinders. OHC is overhead cam and mans the cam is in the head above the valves and sits right on the rockers, replacing the old cam above crank, pushing lifters, pushing pushrods, pusing rocker, pushing valves. the D or S is just single or dual(double, ive heard it both ways) an inline 6 can have dual cams, so can any engine if you want it to. streetrcr45 08-20-2003, 10:54 AM oh :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: ok... thanx for clearin that up streetrays 08-21-2003, 03:55 PM CD Accord engine: LX, DX, SE = F22B2 (sohc non vtec) EX = F22B1 (sohc vtec) Euro-R = H22A (similar to preludes) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
