Ok just a quick question it may sound dumb but how does one get sponserd and what does sponsering consist of???

Sponsorship depends on many factors. Basically a company equips your car with their product and you agree to give them the car for exhibits or shows or whatever kind of event they need it for, i.e. SEMA, CES, and what not. You promise to keep the car in a show-worthy condition, especially if it remains a daily driver. Sometimes they will go all out with a paint job, redo the interior, etc etc. It depends on their budget and what kind of advertising point they are trying to make. They usually want current model years (or current body-style). SOMETIMES, they will accept an older vehicle or last gen. body style depending on what market they are shooting for or what their budget is.

There is more to sponsorship than just getting "freebie" stuff whether its a $14,000 stereo system or body kits, suspension etc etc. You also become an unofficial (or sometimes official) spokesperson for the company. You may have to attend shows/exhibits and be available to answer potential customer/vendors questions. You will be expected to act in a business-like fashion. They don't want some snot-nosed kid wanting free stuff then acting like a total ass at an event or to the general public. They DO check message boards and chat rooms and if they find out one their sponsored people is acting like an idiot that may cost that person his/her sponsorship.

If you are serious about it, your best bet would be to write the company(ies) you are seeking sponsorship from. Tell them who you are, what kind of vehicle you are looking to have sponsored, and some info on why you think they would benefit from having YOU advertise their product. They wanna know what's in it for them, not how they can help you. Also make sure your spelling and grammar is excellent. If you write a bunch of run-on sentences or your spelling and punctuation is screwy, they might not take you seriously. Make sure to utilize the spelling/grammar check in Word (or whatever program you use).

Some companies are extremely picky. For example, Alex (my fiance) has worked for several car audio companies in the past. At one particular one, they wanted you to have a custom vehicle that was show quality, had to have won at least a certain number of trophies, had to have appeared on the COVER of vehicle magazines at least 2 times already, and have guaranteed potential coverage (5 page spread min.) for the future. Meaning if this was a vehicle that already graced the covers of magazines, it had to be changed EVEN MORE so that it would be fresh and different. With custom cars, once an amazing vehicle has been exposed in the scene, that "fame" wears off after about a year. People are always looking for something different. Alex's Neon was popular in the local scene for awhile because it had shaved rear doors, a sliding ragtop (very rare for a Neon around here to have) and a few other funky things going on. But after awhile it was just another lowered Neon on wheels, as more people did bigger better things.

Sponsorshop is not easy. You have to put a ton of work into the car, and guarantee it will stay in tip top condition. Contracts for sponsorshop may last 1-2 years, but usually not less than a year. You may have periods where you will be car-less as your vehicle travels to events, and some of those events you may not be invited to, but your car will be there. You are pretty much under their reign until your contract is up or if you get lucky and they give you an early release.

Hope that answers some of your questions :)

Yes, it is sweet. I think I came across info on neons.org that it was for sale. I know with Clarion, when they are done with their own demo vehicles they give them to the best dealer of the year. A guy here in Phoenix who owns Cardenal Car Stereo won their Mustang one year. He's a great guy, Alex and I used to give him a ton of business....when we had more free money...those were the days :)
