The undeniable 2002 WRXLadyLuke 06-25-2003, 12:16 AM I am helping my buddy purchase and mod up a 2002 WRX sedan. I have been reading the Import Tuner Tech section and they are saying it starts out with a base of 190 HP. My Buddy says he read it has a base of 227 HP. What is right? carrrnuttt 06-25-2003, 12:29 AM 227HP at the crank, stock. Equates to about 160-170HP at the wheels...all FOUR of them. LadyLuke 06-25-2003, 01:03 AM Thanks a lot CarrrNutt Hey where did you get the Matrix scene EJ20 06-25-2003, 03:54 PM 227........ welcome to the scooby world. 90gs 06-25-2003, 10:18 PM whats the difference between horsepower at the flywheel and horsepower at the crank? i know how to measure horsepower at the wheels but how do you measure horsepower at the flywheel or crank? ChaosStarter 06-26-2003, 02:18 AM if you dyno you car, and say you it puts out 200hp, divide that by 0.8 and you get your crank hp, which would be 250hp. Now I know this equation works for FWD cars, but I'm not sure if it's RWD and AWD as well... -The Stig- 06-26-2003, 03:08 AM Flywheel = Crank... Samething... High Octane 06-26-2003, 11:21 AM i know the WRX is fast aadn all, and this is just my opinion. But dont you think with the WRX's golden rims and giant hood scoop and big spoiler on teh back its sorta like factory rice? 96z28SS 06-26-2003, 11:31 AM Originally posted by High Octane i know the WRX is fast aadn all, and this is just my opinion. I also like the splatters of pink paint on it too. Just what every sports car needs... a little pink! Cbass 06-26-2003, 12:10 PM Originally posted by 96z28SS I couldn't agree with you more!!!! Just what every sports car needs... a little pink! The WRX is not a sports car, it's a 4 door sedan, with enough power to keep up with a Z28 in a straight line, and good enough suspension to outhandle it in the corners... I stopped by the Tacoma scoobyship this week, and got to see all the pretty 2004 models :bigthumb: I love the new front end. I was looking at the wagons, with dreams of a daily driver when my 924 evolves out of that phase. NSX-R-SSJ20K 06-26-2003, 12:14 PM pink spoiler and scoop all come from the WRX which is not Ricey at all. None of it is factory rice Factory rice is what Uncle Ben's makes LadyLuke 06-26-2003, 01:07 PM You can get them without the big spoiler. And the big hood scoop is more then necessary due to the fact that this thing is very much air dependent. I dont think it is a ricer thing at all. I like the '02s the best. i like the round headlights, and i love their rear ends YogsVR4 06-26-2003, 01:25 PM Originally posted by NSX-R-SSJ20K pink spoiler and scoop all come from the WRX which is not Ricey at all. But it is one quick grocery getter  LadyLuke 06-26-2003, 01:37 PM And that it was originally for Rally racing. carrrnuttt 06-26-2003, 07:34 PM Originally posted by LadyLuke You can get them without the big spoiler. The intercoolers sit on top due to the extreme rallying spirit of the car that Subaru has left intact on the car. Rather than an FMIC, which could gather dust and mud on a rally course, they opted for the TMIC, which reduces those chances, including the system getting damaged in a crash, which is why there have been Subaru victories accomplished with damaged front-ends. The WRX comes with the wing and hood scoop but the are fully functional and have some purpose unlike most aftermarket scoops and wings. Shinez 07-01-2003, 03:53 AM NAh I'd honestly say.....right now the most factory ricey car is the Rx-8...no doubt about it.....And as for the Top mounted intercooler....since it's a boxer engine a TMIC would be technically the most efficient in it's stock trim.....A stock WRX with a FMIC, for 1 wouldn't meet USDM saftey standards, unless they elongated the bumper about an inch...And second it'd be so much distance for the air to travel, it just wouldn't be a practical use of power on the stock car..modded..a FMIC will do wonders..but stock a top mount is the best bet LjasonL 07-03-2003, 07:39 PM The gold wheels and pink emblems are part of the STi's heritage. If you consider that ricey, then the racing stripes on anniversary edition camaros and vettes are just as ricey. The hood scoop and wing are fully functional. Being functional means not ricey. Unless you think the hood scoops and wings on the 7 second drag cars are ricey. DkShadow 07-03-2003, 10:51 PM I am helping my buddy purchase and mod up a 2002 WRX sedan. I have been reading the Import Tuner Tech section and they are saying it starts out with a base of 190 HP. My Buddy says he read it has a base of 227 HP. What is right? I believe the Rs comes with the 190hp (:dunno:) and the wrx comes with 227hp from the factory if you dyno you car, and say you it puts out 200hp, divide that by 0.8 and you get your crank hp, which would be 250hp. Now I know this equation works for FWD cars, but I'm not sure if it's RWD and AWD as well... Rwd i would think muliply the norm for Manuals 1.15 x RWHP (15% drivetrain loss) and for Autos its 1.20 x rwhp (20% drivetrain loss) The WRX is not a sports car, it's a 4 door sedan, with enough power to keep up with a Z28 in a straight line, and good enough suspension to outhandle it in the corners... Dunno about beating it in the straight lines. If its an LS1 its now slouch on the 1/4. Also not to mention the 1LE and the Bilstein upgrades. So it can take a corner pretty hard than expected. Shinez 07-03-2003, 11:13 PM I've read plenty of places it's 227.....Get's 170 to the ground..... *cough 25% drivetrain loss* Like how I fit 8 syllables into 1 cought huh? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
