Which Wash.

Hi all, I am currently building a Lotus Type 78 and would like to add a wash to the engine which I have painted with Alclad II. I have no idea which type of wash to use for this. I have several types of ready made wash including Mig, and Vallejo acrylic. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Cheers, Jay.

Try some black or grey oil paint (from an art shop), thinned with white spirit. This works great. Apply and wipe off as necessary. 1 tube of paint will last years.

Be aware of what base coat you used underneath the alclad. Some thinners I've used with oils in the past will pull the paint from underneath the alclad. I coat with alclad aqua gloss before washes and it is much safer to do.

Try THIS (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=441493) tutorial form MPWR. I use it and have always been very happy with the results.

BTW the Tutorial Thread (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=215864) is often a good place to start when you have questions (or even just browse to discover answers to questions you didn't even know you needed to ask ;) )

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will try the artists oils and see how I get on. Great tutorial by the way.
