Catalytic Converter No Welding

I called several muffler shops and they said they wouldn't weld my cat at the down pipe and they would only install the direct fit.

If that's the case I would install a direct fit myself.

Anyway, I couldn't afford the direct fit and already had the cat.

I used a chain pipe cutter so I could get the cleanest cut I could. The front of the cat slipped in snug at the down pipe, the back of the cat 2.25" was going into 2" pipe so I had to get a pipe reducer.

Once I put in the reducer I put on a strap band clamp and used some quick steel putty for a seal.

I tried to put a band clamp at the front but it wouldn't fit because of the curve of the pipe. I ended up reluctantly using a u-bolt (not pictured) but still came out nicely.

When you cut that front pipe, did you cut it as close to the weld near the cat?

If you did, you should not have had a problem with the installation.....

Looking at the picture, it looks like the piping on the new cat is bigger that the old one?

Yeah it was 2.25" on both sides, I had to use a pipe reducer for the back because it was 2.00".
