I haven't built a Tamiya 1/6 bike for many years so I thought I'd check out the new release Fat Boy Lo.

What an awesome kit, for those who haven't seen it yet, the cylinders and heads are made from no less than 42 individual layers stacked together to form the fins.

I've also added the detail set for even more fun.

Here's a sneak peek of the start I've made so far.

Nice one Dan...been looking forward to seeing some pics of this, since its release. The engineering quality looks top notch, but I'm not keen on their choice of bike! If I had one it would have to go through some kind of Exile transformation, even though it has the matte black already! Looking forward to more pics.

It's a fantastic kit, I had it on hand.... did you use a plain flat black for the engine or a textured paint? I saw in some topic someone using the textured one.... do you know it?

Very nice! About 15 years ago I did the Tamiya FXE Superglide and I've really been wanting to do more of these, and I really like the look of this one!

I made some very minor progress today.

The frame and rear swingarm are all assembled, cleaned up and painted and the engine has been bolted in.

The 2013 Fat boy Lo is only available in 3 colours.... Semi-Gloss Black, Gloss Black and Candy Orange ( although it looks more like red to me)

I will be building the Candy Orange version.

All those schemes look good (especially Orange) but I still think the Tamiya official matt black or satin black finish looks meanest for this Bike.

I have same kit here too and pretty sure mine will be matt/satin black, some other stuff on bench to finish first though.

OP is doing a fantastic job and its the first one I've seen getting built.

Here's some of the earlier Tamiya 1/6 Harleys I built between 15-20 years ago. (Along with most of the rest of the series)

I thought these were awesome kits at the time, and they were, but the new Fat Boy just blows them out of the water.

Todays small update:

I have added the oil tank and battery, I'll add a bit more wiring under the seat later to make things look a bit busier.

I also managed to prep and paint all of the bodywork too. I'll give it a week or so to gas out before breaking out the polishing kit.

Yep, its looking great so far and thanks for sharing the build, its the first I've seen of this kit.

What paint and primer are you using? great glossy finish you have going there already. I'm still sure I'll do mine in matt Black stock kit scheme just now but that may change, that orange red is going to look great against the black cycle parts.

I own several of the Tamiya 1/6 Bikes kits inc this one, Kawa Z1300 half built, CB1100R, XS1100 and Suzuki Katana finished as well as dozens of 1/12 Tamiya Bike kits built and finished, they really are for me the most pleasurable model builds :smokin:

Thanks Katana,

Paints so far are all Tamiya spray cans.

Tamiya primer - TS75 Champagne Gold - TS39 Mica Red - TS13 Clear.

Heres my Z1300 and Katana built many years ago....
