Diffrent engine swap question???

I "think" this is a diffrent question, but I am sure NOT a new question. I have a pair of 300zx (an 85 and 86) the '86 is a normaly asperated stock motor. What I want to drop in is something like a VG30DETT. Or would i get better bang out of a diffrent N.A. motor with a serious set of turbos on it. Now then my question is, will the VG30DETT motor fit??? If so, what all kind of mods will be needed? I am new to the forum and am looking forward to hearing your ideas..

Thanks...
Trigger

yes it has been done before!

it's costly...with the same amount of money you can take the VG30ET and make 300+whp!

head over to www.z31.com and we can help answer all your questions!

thanks for the reply... The motor I was looking at was stated at 320hp (I dont know if that was BHP or at the wheel) would like to get in the range of like 350hp or at least the neighborhood. Any suggestions?

you can get creative if you need to be..many z32 guys will try to put down the VG30ET and say it doesn't make much power and that it's hard to find parts for.

But, we have alot of guys in the area of 350rwhp now....some have gone as far as 600rwhp!

what is it your looking into spending?

if you can do the work yourself and knopw how to weld and have lots of money....you can swap out your VG30E and put in a VG30DETT.

but if you don't, a VG30ET used is about $850! there are things you need to put it in though....the engine crossmember is #1 on the list, ecu from that same engine.

here's your VG30ET options:

-1984-1987-
VG30ET
Garrett/Nissan T3 turbocharger
6.7PSI stock boost-non-intercooled
out dated ECU
short snout crank
84-85 didn't have AIV,86-89 did have AIV
200hp@5200rpms
7.8:1 compression ratio

-1988-1989-
VG30ET
Garrett/Nissan T25 Turbocharger
4PSI stock boost-non-intercooled
chip friendly ecu
Long snout crank
205hp@5200rpms
8.3:1 compression ratio
Floating wrist pins, piston like the Z32

to say the least they will both make about the same power, the '88-'89 engine are easier to swap in the Z32 TT pistons.

to know what Z31 is turbo, just look at the VIN.

if the car starts with JN1HZ it is a non turbo model!
if the car starts with JN1CZ it is a turbo model!

Thanks for the great post, it helps alot.....I think it would be better if I didnt go with the new style TT motor. (I have ALOT of mechanical work available for me, but it is mostly for motorcycles) So it looks like I was about to bite off more than I can chew...lol! How in the world are the guys getting 600HP?????? I think it would be fun to have that much, but I dont think I could keep my foot out of the radiator. Once again... thanks for the great info.

How...by making hybrid motors from Nissans engine selections...

3.3Liter Pathfinder motor, custom pistons, pathfinder intake or custom sheet metal intake,T4 ball bearing turbo,Twin turbo z32 fuel pump,720cc/min injectors,SDS engine management,Isky cams...that alone gets you 400rwhp! fine tuning with fuel and dyno runs....gets you more for your dollar.

it can be done....just matters on how deep the pockets go...lol

all that power and only 12 valves!
