Shelby Series 1 (N/A), Lotus Esprit V8, Ferrari 360, or a Saleen S-351? (http://www.supercars.net/Comp?sourceList=501&CompList=501-391-712-1161)
My pics:
1) 360
2) Esprit
3) Series 1
4) S-351

Okay, so afr the 360 is kicking ass! Perhaps you should add the M5 or a half-comparable car. Nothing can be that 395 hp naturally-aspirated V8 though.

enzo@af
03-22-2001, 09:07 PM
Well, the M5 was too "sport-sedan" for me...and the Z8 was compared to it in C&D. all performance specs are fairly similar, mind you.

Nobody seems to like the Z8, I think it's a very nice car, and it is fairly fast too.

Oooooh. Exotic. ;)

1) Shelby Series 1 (especially if its the supercharged version!)
2) Ferrari 360 Modena
3) Lotus Esprit V8 (turbo?)
4) Saleen S-351 Mustang

Ya well what are you going to do?

I voted, for the Ferrari of course.

Consider putting this up agian but this time give people more of a selection. Include the CL 500, BMW Z8, One or two Bentleys, an M5, a S7 and maybe a Cobra R if you can.

i take the Lotus.
Its 50 grand less than the ferrari, and almost as fast.
I think the Z8 sucks as a pure sports car, its goal in life is a fast GT, which it does fairly well, bu tI would NEVER buy one.

Ill vote for the 2002 405 Hp Corvette Z06

I'd take a 355 Spyder over any of those.

Heep
04-13-2001, 08:15 PM
Yeah, I'd take the 355 Spyder too. The 360 hasn't really grown on me yet, mostly because of the sheer beauty of the 355. It took 4 years after the 355 came out for me to like it more than the 348...I'm kinda slow when it comes to changing my mind about V8 Ferraris. I chose the Lotus because I like it better than the 360, bu less than a 355. Also, if you have the Lotus, people see you as driving the top of the line, most expensive Lotus. When you have the 360, you are seen as the poorest of the Ferrari owners...know what I mean?

MBTN
04-13-2001, 09:43 PM
No, when you drive a 308, you are a "poor" Ferrari owner. ;)

carmaster
04-13-2001, 09:50 PM
How could you be seen as poor if your driving a 180,000 dollar car? Unless your Bill Gates.

I think the Z8 will be one nice car to have in 20 or 30 years, just because of the limited numbers, the retro look, I think they will be so hard to get. Even if you don't really like them, you should want one, just so that you can sell it in a few years for more than you paid.

enzo@af
04-14-2001, 07:19 PM
I beg to differ, MBTN...if you're driving a mondial, you're a poor Ferrari owner.

Correction, the 2002 Corvette Z06 will have around 435hp:D. I'll give my vote to a 95 Corvette ZR1.

If your driving a 79' Hyundai you're just plain poor.

hmmm....
lotus
it seems more like a street car than a ferrari...
dont get me wrong, i love a ferrari, but i wouldnt be afraid to take a lotus in the rain as much as a ferrari... i see the ferrari as more of a collectible... i would drive one everyday if i could, but i know i would have something fast and modded (lotus) in the driveway

so... i take em all.

lol Porsche.

When I said that, I meant poorest of the NEW Ferrari owners.

Mondials and 400's go pretty cheep.

Chris

Nop, the 2002 vette will have 405 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. Chevy engineers say the 385 hp as a steppin gstone to 400+. Maybe, someday the Z06 will have a 435 hp, but not in 2002:rolleyes:

HeavyRightFOOT
05-10-2001, 08:25 PM
It's still all good. I just heard 435 somewhere else and thought it was official.

Chris

When you say its all good, you hit the nail on the proverbial head:)

Chris

What do you mean, the Lotus is a road car?? These are awesome track machines! Teh engine is a pure racing engine, it even has a flat-plane crankshaft (good power, bad refinement). Teh Ferrari is awesome, but not as raw as the Lotus. I would take the Lotus first! plus its cheaper:rolleyes:

i am 100% absolutely positive ist 405 Horsepower and 400 Torque, i have seen an order form :)

I just love the design of the Shelby Series 1. It looks aggressive and just plain kick ass!

Chris
05-23-2001, 08:56 AM
I like the Series 1, it is something I would make if I had the money and skill. But quality of the interior bits needs to be worked on, but I think they have it straightened out.
Pretty neat car, though.

Chris, what's your initial of your last name? Is it "V"?

Chris
05-24-2001, 09:04 AM
Why? Well, that shows you that it isn't. It is C. But really, why do you ask?

Oh, there was a guy from another board named "Chris V." who built cars (like, not in a plant...he designed an engine swap kit for a second gen RX-7...I think he had some sort of body shop or something) and you said "you'd build it if you had the money". Just sounded like him.

Lotus . . . just because

Chris
05-24-2001, 03:07 PM
Oh, that makes sense. I trust you got my intent, though.

Actually, when I was fantasizing apout what I would make, it looked like the Opel Speedster (this was before I had ever heard of it). In my mind it weighed 1800lbs, had a TT V6 with 350+hp, etc.
But the Series one also has teh body of another fantasy car of mine. And theres my original post on the subject!

PS, I have a tendency to get carried away sometimes. Must be the ADHD;)

heep, if someone who knows jack about cars sees a 360 modena they will go, cool a ferrari. that guy much be rich. someone who sees a 360 modena and knows about them, will be impressed. they wont care that it's the cheapest ferrari in production. no one thinks that. there are only 2(???? 360 modena and 550 maranello, not counting spiders and such) ferrari's in production anyways. just depends on what you want. a fast track car or a fast cruiser. both nice cars, but i think 90% of the people here would take a 360 modena just because they know what that car is.

I'd take the 360 without even thinking, its a Ferrari! And, correct me if I am wrong, but Motor Trend got the 0-60 to 3.9, thats fast!!!!!!!!!! and what would Enzo Ferrari think if i chose the Lotus or the shelby...

In the article, MT tested the Spider and said the #s were estimated. I just checked out both Road and Track and SuperCars.Net (which is usually BS, I know) but both clocked the Modena @ 4.3, and the Spider @ 4.5...

Chris

And they got the Esprit to 60 in 4.1 seconds. Go Lotus!!

Mosler MT900, 2300 lb midengined car with a vette engine, could stuff a 7L in there and really fly :smoka: after that, the S7, the Z06 if you consider it a supercar, performs like one but it doesnt carry the cost or low production numbers so I dont (1 more good point might I add) It seems all the new ones are coming out with a V12 or bigger engine, people are going to start seeing X-32s and think it's the new best shit on the market.

All Ferrari's are more than just a car. They are moving art....

But there is nothing that can compare to small ass car with a motor that is ridiculously too much... It's just so.... American it's just so....

SHELBY!!!!!

badass cars, but dont associate them with exotics, they're better then that. They can perform without costing more then a house, and no, to anyone else, bitching about the interior isn't a viable argument.

The 355 is the cheapest Ferrari(besides the 456, as mentioned above).
