1:24 flatbed tow truck

I would love to build something like this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v417/willimo/integraonaflatbed_zps4e675bf1.jpg

But no one makes a flatbed tow truck like this, that I know of. So my question is for you truck guys - Is there any small cabover like this that I could make into a flatbed towtruck? I could easily scratchbuild the flatbed, but the cab would be kind of hard for me. And, also, the appropriately small wheels for such a thing? I would love to make a cool little display model like this but the truck is the stumbling block.

Any ideas?

*That picture totally stolen from stickydiljoe.com and rehosted to share here.

I know there's a seller on Ebay that has resin 1/24-1/25 rollback decks like the one pictured. In his add he has them displayed on the back of one of the Ford F350 kits if memory serves right but I cant off the top of my head remember seeing a kit for a truck like that.

Hope you find what you need.

I do not believe that they are any medium duty COE trucks available , there resin cabs of Fords/Chevy/International conventional cabs available

And I too can not think of the seller, but he does sell a full working roll back bed on ebay

What about an older day-cab-conversion:

Or does it have to be a new mid-size truck?

Sambar/Carry are too small. And the Euro cabovers are too big:/ And there't the perfect Aoshima cabs, but 1/32:/ Lame lame lame:(

It drives me nuts that Aoshima's trucks are all 1:32...

I kinda want something pretty modern. We'll see

I know at least one 1/24 cabover R/C toy.
Here is a review (http://blog.goo.ne.jp/kentec_daa/e/aa7567bfc35f01df41d66d1badb909ff) in Japanese.
It's Isuzu Elf 2-ton truck operated by the Japanese delivery company Sagawa-kyubin, and looks pretty good for a toy, especially the clear windows and interior unlike other R/C toys in the same scale.
I don't think it was sold to the general public, and second-hand items don't come cheap, but if you can turn it into a flatbed, it'll be a unique addition to your collection.

I'm planning on building one of these too. I had an idea of butchering up a Toyota Hiace kit for the front part and adapting it as a cab onto a truck chassis. Lots of scratch building but nothing major i wouldn't of thought.

Hope this helps

That Isuzu Elf would be perfect! I am afraid $52 is a lot for this though... at least right now...

Hiace is a great idea, Mr. Plumb! Maybe....

Which Hiace kit, Aosmia's passenger van, or Tamiya's Delivery Hiace?

1/32 semi truck wheels/tires might work , as they might be close to what medium duty tire/wheel size are

I was thinking of the Aoshima kit, plus if you get the right kit you can offset the lose of a kit with all the spares ie wheels, suspension etc :D

I like the Tamiya Hiace rollback idea. Perfect for your tiny little classic kei-car of choice- Toyota S800, Subaru R2, Honda Today....

I would think that a Revell Unimog would be a good candidate for a rollback conversion. You could even stretch the frame if you were so inclined.

I totally forgot about Aoshima's Hi-Ace kit. You can build a smaller version of ToyoAce like these:

Does it have to be Japanese?

The most common wreckers in Europe are the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter/VW Crafter and Atego. Both available in 1:24 scale.

The VW Crafter is available in die-cast form:

A German modeler is currently mastering transkits for this die-cast: single-cab, double cab and panel van.

The Atego is available from Revell:

Just cut off the cab extension and you're good to go. It even includes the lightbar and some of the fire equipment may also be used on a tow truck...
