I have a 96 5-spd HX, which has VTEC-E. A friend of mine is getting rid of his 96 EX ecu, and i was wondering if swapping the ecu would be at all beneficial. Some people say that it would enable regular VTEC in my car but i wanted to know for sure...

Thanks for the help

No, the only way to get regular VTEC is to get the EX head in your HX block, or the entire EX engine.

if it is free id go for it, you still mioght have some more p[ower out of it, but you will stil have the same vtec system. vtec E is 1 valve to 2 valves i think while vtec is 2 valves to 2 valves higher lift. I am alsoi not certain if the engagement points are the dsame on the EX and HX.

i suspect that an ecu swap would cause some serious issues. ie: fuel distribution and engagement times that would baffle your engine. you'd have a constant check engine light on, and likely goo for spark plugs and seals after a very short time. if you want the v-tec, get the head.

you could pick up a d16 for not that much...I imagine...and with some turbo...
