i understand 240sx is made to drift but...

have any of you guys run your 240sx sr20det swap at the drag strip?

what kinda times do you get?

youre new here, so first of all, welcome.

2nd, if youre looking into dragging the 240sx, then youre waay better off using a turbo'd ka24de.

but to answer your original question, you should be running anything aroun mid/high 14's to low/mid 15's

the best i ever seen a sr20det motor run in a 240sx is mid 11's

for drag your better off gettin a ka-t 10 sec motor..

The lowest I've ever seen a STREET LEGAL sr20 run is low 12s. lol
I assume that you're going to want a daily driver in this car also. I would go KA-T if I were you...

but how much work would you have to put into the KA to even get those times? from what my friend at work says you'd have to have the engine all done up for it to make 10s.

turbo, manifold, head work, strengthening for sure, new crank, pistons etc...it'd need alot of work. engine's are under alot of pressure when pulling 10 second drag times, so they have to be strong.

yea that sound right..

with any car to make it do 10's it takes alot of work.. the whole bottom end has to be re-built the bottom do all that fule ish.. and bigger turbo.. you know all that good stuff..

damm it beat me to the punch...

wanna hear something screwed up? my buddy was at a car gathering once, and some dude was doing a burnout in his Integra, nothing wrong with that, only thing is the rear wheels were spinning which is very odd seeing how an Integra is a FWD car. the dude in the teg popped his hood and showed everyone his SR20DET. damn honda owners are taking the nissan looks and now the engine.

theres a shop in cali that dropped a FWD sr20 into a civic, but it was still FWD!!!!! a whole RWD conversion is expensive, but there are morons in the world...

Um yeah, unless the SR20 came out of an already front drive Nissan and is still attached to the nissan transaxle... and was shoe-horned into the front of a honda... I know this whole thing is Bullshit.

See if you made an SR 20 mount to a honda transaxle then threw it into 1st gear for the first time wanting to race... the scenerio would go something like this:

Put car into first gear,
Rev up engine
Dump Clutch
GO BACKWARDS!!!
Quickly,
Clutch in,
Shift to second,
GO BACKWARDS!
FASTER

The only usable forward gear on an SR swap onto a honda transaxle would be reverse... with all kinds of gear whine to a whopping speed of like 12 MPH!!!!

DO the swap,
Then Race me, I can use some easy cash.

In front drive cars the term is lifted... you lift engines into the car from the bottom, not "drop."

No offence, but that is the new trend to say "lift" just thought I'd bust out some street slang for all the homies!

Dropping is now what a minitrucker does so he can scrape the bottom of his truck all up in an attempt to arouse the opposite sex of the species the minitruckette,

Maybe we should start a thread on new street slang, I need to keep up with this stuff, I am getting older and faster (yeah fatter too, but more importantly, faster) therefore i spend more time getting faster and not studying the lingo or whatever.

piece out to my cream-sickle brutha's in the pizz-arking lot

NervGS

Who ever said the 240 WAS MADE TO DRIFT!?!?!?!?

NO ONE. It is a SPORTS CAR, and like every SPORTS CAR it was designed to handle rather nicely and go fast. Unfortunatly the KA both variations the 240 came with lacked high-end power. But with enough skill you can take it to that level and use it.

I've seen plenty of 240s at drag events, its an all around car, do whatever the hell you want with it, hell, its your car, do what you want, fuck the majority saying "no, its a DRIFT car you don't drag race in it!"

Geez... Sometimes I wonder about this forum...

Again.

KA or SR are BOTH good for drag racing, and last I recall, people were making much better times with SR all around the WORLD. For the KA, only other car I can recall that was a stand out was Duy's S14 from Texas or whereever ran a 10 or 9 second 1/4 mile.

how come you guys seem to recommend KA for dragging, and SR for drifting...

i am not very good with imports, i'm a domestic guy. but i would like to do both, drift/drag, and wanna get a 240sx.

sorry but suspension problems will not allow you to both....well you COULD do both, but you wouldnt be able to be very good at either one of them

NervGS

I guess the mindset here is that the KA has alot of low-end torque, which is good for dragging, and SR has turbo which is good for high-end power.

Which I STILL do not understand WHY everyone says this... BOTH ENGINES ARE GOOD FOR WHAT THEY DO, and they get their jobs done regardless of what they are. You just have to have the skills for this...

If only Mike were here, he'd actually TELL you what he's taken out with this SOHC KA.

Id like to see somebody with a purpose built NA KA on the street that is all tricked out.

I wonder what kinda cars people can beat in a KA24DE with all the bolt ons and then some lol.

I/H/E
Test Pipe
Pulleys
Cams
Grounding Kit
SDS Standalone Computer
Maybe even some trick intake with ITB's or such.
Higher Comp Pistons
Head Porting and Polishing
Better Valvtrain pieces
Angled Valve job with some oversized valves.

I bet you would be around 190-210rwhp... in a Naturally Aspirated KA. that would be one hell of a torquey NA motor for an import lol. People have talked about it, id like to see it done. And not these Robello race Single Cams.... Id like to see someone build up a Twin Cam.

you would be faster then a stock or mildly modified SR20.... A Sr20 running big boost would probably ruin your day.... but if you had a NA car like that it probably wouldn't worry you too much hehe. It would have better gas mileage and be more reliable too!

I see some old 510's or even Z cars that swap in NA KA24's....

plus a finely tuned and put together Naturally Aspirated car is much nicer then a built up boost machine, they kick ass hehe

:thefinger

with LSD, drag radials, Shorter Gears, aftermarket clutch/flywheel/driveshaft it would be easy to hit 14's. With good driving and some lightening up I bet you could low 14's or 13's... that would be quite respectable for a 4 banger without forced induction, and territory for stomping some domestics.

i'm still working on my n/a buddy :D :D

mine's a single cam though... does 1/4 in 15's. if i would convert it to stick and add an lsd we're already looking around a flat 14.... so there's definate possiblity for the ka n/a

i wonder how a better exhaust would help my car... i have just a tip exhaust now, but ordered an hks hiper catback and a random technology hi-flow cat today..... should bring me down to mid to low 15's. and that's with an auto.

You're kidding right...?

Sorry to break your heart but do you even have a TIME SLIP for those 15's? G-Tech does not count.

You do ALL that work, including 5 speed (stock clutch and flywheel), and if you got the skill to launch and stuff, you'd more be looking at HIGH 15's or so...

you might as well save up and buy a RB25DET, better for drag racing than the ka-t or sr

if you don't know what that is its the skyline engine and has around 250-260 hp

what some people just don't get is its not all about HP numbers....

Yah, I can understand how you people with your insane amounts of knowledge resent us n00bs encroaching on 'your' cars, but we DO come here to learn you know, not just harass you and rice out 240s to piss you off.

naw, were just teasin you guys most of the time. well, ok, maybe not most of the time....most of the time theres a moron bandwagon jumper that wants a 240 to be cool and asks really stupid questions....

but for the one who just wants to be an enthusiast by reading and learning, props to you.

we answer your questions, we might get off topic once and a while, hell, we might even flame the hair off your ass, but we normally get around to answering your questions.

ran two ways down a pretty level street in my area with gtech...one was 16.0 and going down the other way was a 15.8.

i swear by those iridium spark plugs and bosche wires :icesangel i gotta see how i do now that i have some header wrap on.

i want to take her to the track but im really caring less and less about this... i had to replace the cat on my car because the current stock one is a rust bucket and is starting to shake and is very loud...

i was racing an old school firebird in a 25 zone (should be 35.. its all open, no one on it...), COP GOT US off a side street.. sucked bigtime.... i told him i was late for work (even though i work at home and was wearing my SpeedSports racing tshirt... HAHAHAHA...), and that i just lost track of how fast i was going (i was pushing 70 when i heard the sirens go off)... he either believed me or was cool as fuck, gave me a speeding for 45 in a 25 zone... still gonna cost me a few hundred..... but the firebird wasnt so lucky, he started swearing real loud when the cop starting talking to him... lol..... i think he got racing cause he was behind me...
