Enginepolostar1 06-09-2003, 07:47 PM I've always wanted to learn about cars but have never gotten taught or just didn't have time. I would like to know what things make the car go faster and why. Why do you need "HKS Super Sequential blow off valve" or "JE Engine Dynamics Cam Gear" or a radiator fan? What do things among the other things contribute to the car? Thanks! B16EJ1 06-09-2003, 08:06 PM This would take a long time. I suggest you just hang out and read. sageuvagony 06-09-2003, 10:54 PM HEY THOSE RIMS look very familiar! sageuvagony 06-09-2003, 10:56 PM  liquid8 06-09-2003, 11:53 PM yeah but at least he has the ever so cool coffee can coming out the back of his car wheel1856 06-10-2003, 03:26 AM well polostar1...if that is your real name....as interested as Im sure you are in sageuvagony's rims.... here's what cha do...Im very new to this all myself. I graduated from college, and found myself ridiculously bored, next thing you know Im talkin to importers, parts dealers, and junkyards lookin for parts, engines, and doing work on my car I never thought I'd ever be able to imagine. Buy some books, do some serious internet searching, check out the FAQ. AF has a great FAQ, it's kinda tricky if you are starting from square 1, many of the articles assume one already knows what the acronyms are and various parts are n such...but it's helpful none the less. Also, hang out on the boards. do searches on here. pick somehting you wanna learn about, ie: camgears, cam shafts, cam timing, etc...do a search and read all about it, from what a cam does, to how you can make it do it better. some books that I have found helpful: Civic Duty by Alan Paradise, published by Bentley Publishers. and Honda and Acura Performance Handbook, by Nike Ancas, published by Motorbooks International. Hell, I even sat down and just started reading my Haynes manual one day. just takes some time and a lil effort, and lots of reading and poking around the car. put it to you this way, 7 months ago, the idea of fixing my breaks befuddled me, now Im planning a near complete re-build of my car. either way, happy hunting, and welcome to the addiction. If so why don't I just slap you in the face with my " Tanabe Racing Medallion " or fartcan as you put it. It never ceases to amaze me. IMHO I have one of the cleanest cars on this site yet some f*ckin hater finds something to nitpick about. http://www.garagetuners.com/images/smilies/jerkit.gif jcrx 06-10-2003, 06:53 AM Originally posted by polostar1 I've always wanted to learn about cars but have never gotten taught or just didn't have time. Mr CiviC Ex 06-10-2003, 06:45 PM wow man, i seriously doubt that you were born knowing everything about cars... people come onto forums in order to get help and advice from people who are willing to "lend a helping hand" or so to speak. not to come on and be flamed for not knowing everything. if you have nothing productive to say, why bother saying it? you're just giving yourself a rep of being a tool. or at least thats what i've seen. wheel1856 06-10-2003, 09:25 PM oh no....:newbie: Well Mr. Civic EX, to follow your own advice, you would know that when one is new to a forum, they should "lurk" or read around the posts before making a judgement call. FYI, esp is one of the more helpful members of AF, and in this forum a general understanding is held between subscribers that a ball busting isnt far away. what esp meant by that is with the advice Im sure polostar1 has been given in this and other threads, along with a potential PM, is that once polostar1 relizes what he was asking, he may feel foolish because he has the ability to learn what those parts are, quickly, and well - especially on here. sooooooooooo....piss off. there, that's my one flame for the month. HXCivic97 06-10-2003, 11:04 PM Originally posted by wheel1856 there, that's my one flame for the month. Oh don't be so hard on yourself.
