Can someone who really knows what they are talking about explain the layout of the drivetrain in an AWD Cosworth Escort? I know it uses an MT 75 transmission and an independent rear suspension. How about the front? Do the axles come staight out of the tranny, or is there a short drive shaft to another separate differential/axle assembly up front.

to the best of my knowledge (which admittedly is not much) the escort RS cosworth is set up much like a truck with permanent 4wd as opposed to an scoobaru-type all-wheel drive system that throws power around.

the engine is mounted north/south unlike say a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution that is still in the east/west configuration.

power is transfered to a center diff with planetary and viscous coupling and that goes back to the rear diff with the same.

from the center, it also goes to a front diff with planetary gear. the center diff is locked to split the torque 34% to the front, 66% to the rear.
