What you can expect is a reliable car that gets good mileage.
Then you can expect carburetor problems.
Even the low-end 91 Civics will have much more horsepower, ability to maintain speed going up steep hills, and will STILL get better mileage thanks to a computer running the engine, and fuel injection instead of carburetion.
Enjoy having a car that starts when you turn the key, and gets you where you are going. If you expect more than that, expect to buy another car.

PS-I'll sell you a 1990 Honda Civic LX in good shape for $1500.
PPS-My girlfriend has an 82 Accord...that's how I know about the carburetor problems.
