And depends on if you want to have power to the lights at all times or only with the car running? Where are you mounting the switch? sweetwhiteCAV 07-04-2003, 03:20 AM sorry to dig up an old thread, but I am having the same problem. I have a 30" street glow neon light that i want to mount under the front end, and i want to use a toggle switch, because exterior neon is illegal in my area  but my question is the same, how do i get power to the switch? Autoflow 07-04-2003, 06:48 PM easiest is to just run a line from the pos on the battery. Push it through one of the holes in the firewall and then you could add an in line fuse to prevent burning the lights out. with this method they arent on all the time only when you want so it more legal. sweetwhiteCAV 07-05-2003, 02:52 AM I know this is gonna sound really stupid, but keep in mind i know nothing about wiring or any of that stuff... How do i run a line from the positive terminal I know nothing :*^( 97cavi 07-05-2003, 09:12 PM First of, you would need some wire...which it probably came with your kit...u may have all the needed wiring accesories too...but if not...go to your local automotive store and go to the wiring section...you should see many connectors and such...look for a connector that is a circle with plastic on one side of it...thas where your wire will go! on my underbody kit the wires were already welded to the switch...so if yours is like this take one of the wires...probably the longer one and find a hole in ur good ole' firewall...you should be able to find one but if not just drill a hole big enough for the wire to fit through. take off the bolt on ur pos. terminal on your battery (the red side!!) and put that connector with the crimped wire in it on that terminal...put the bolt back on! the other wire that is on the switch will go to your lights...it should go to a little box looking thing where the wires from the lights go into. Put the wire in appropriate place (12 Volt source or Pos. or Power or something of this sort) then with your ground wire...(the negative, which is a completely different wire) will go in its nice lil place on that box...with another connector crimp the other end of the ground wire into it and find a screw on a metal part of ur car and take the screw out and put the connector there and put the screw back on it...or you could always just wire ur ground way back to the negative terminal of your battery...which is not recommended but u can do it...with your neon securily tight on your bumper (so it doesn't fall out while driving!!!) take the wires from it to that box...put the wires in where they should go....and then flip the switch. anything i miss? 97cavi 07-05-2003, 09:13 PM i tried to make it as easy as possible to figure out! 97cavi 07-05-2003, 09:14 PM oh yes! make sure you got that inline fuse on ur wire going to ur toggly! sweetwhiteCAV 07-06-2003, 12:46 AM thanks alot that answers alot of questions. sweetwhiteCAV 07-09-2003, 11:24 AM Originally posted by 97cavi First of, you would need some wire...which it probably came with your kit...u may have all the needed wiring accesories too...but if not...go to your local automotive store and go to the wiring section...you should see many connectors and such...look for a connector that is a circle with plastic on one side of it...thas where your wire will go! on my underbody kit the wires were already welded to the switch...so if yours is like this take one of the wires...probably the longer one and find a hole in ur good ole' firewall...you should be able to find one but if not just drill a hole big enough for the wire to fit through. take off the bolt on ur pos. terminal on your battery (the red side!!) and put that connector with the crimped wire in it on that terminal...put the bolt back on! the other wire that is on the switch will go to your lights...it should go to a little box looking thing where the wires from the lights go into. Okay one problem, when i put the round connector under the positive terminal bolt, the bolt is so short that it wont fit back on the battery with anything inbetween it like that..... What should I do?? Autoflow 07-09-2003, 05:25 PM they have a piece that is used for car audio that screws into the battery terminal like the stock piece and holds the main power line in and then after that theirs about another half inch of screw with a nut on it. thats what i used and it works great. cal la few places around you some one will definitly have them. sweetwhiteCAV 07-10-2003, 02:08 AM would my local auto zone have that? Autoflow 07-10-2003, 01:06 PM http://www.stingerelectronics.com/sting_products/battery_terminals.asp scroll all the way to the bottom of that page the part is stinger battery terminal they should have it. sweetwhiteCAV 07-10-2003, 06:39 PM I got one from my local auto zone today. Thanks for all your help guys Flatrater 07-10-2003, 09:09 PM Originally posted by sweetwhiteCAV exterior neon is illegal in my area  Exterior neon lights are illegal in the whole state of PA! I am a licensed state inspector. No one should issue you a insp. sticker while the light is mounted to the car if it is plugged in or not. Make sure you remove it at your inspection time or it will fail!! sweetwhiteCAV 07-10-2003, 11:32 PM believe me I know. My step-dad owns a garage and inspects cars. Thats why im doin this on my own, he wants no-part in helping me. Autoflow 07-11-2003, 01:11 PM Idk about you Flatrater but in my area you slp them a 20 and theyll pass you. sweetwhiteCAV 07-12-2003, 02:16 AM well, we got supercops where im from, you know, the guys that work all day as cops then go home and watch hawaii 5-0 and fondle themselves... Flatrater 07-12-2003, 10:35 AM Originally posted by Autoflow Idk about you Flatrater but in my area you slp them a 20 and theyll pass you. 20 is not worth it I would never break the law for money! In PA it is over a 200 dollar fine and loss of inspection license. It is not worth the loss in my income over 20 dollars. Just so you know around here we have shops that pass anything as long as you pay your 15 dollars for the inspection. But why risk it do it right. You drive a car wouldn't you rather know its a safe car than paying someone off just to get a sticker. What if your kids are in the car and they get hurt or killed or you hit someone. Was the 20 worth it. Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com! Registration is absolutely free. |
