Hi,

I was looking for a new power steering pump pressure line hose along with a rack and pinion, but the part selections ask if i have variable assist power steering. How do I know if my vechicle is or isn't equipped with it?

2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8L

Thanks

There are two kinds of variable assist......one is magnetically, also known as Magnasteer, and other, known as VES, variable effort steering, is by varying the orifice output of the pump.......this uses a solenoid valve at the output of the PS pump.......

For VES, look for a wiring harness going to the solenoid on the output line of the pump, at the pump.......for Magnasteer, look for a wiring harness coming off of the rack at the spool valve.....
