How about a Le mans Group Build?

Looking at the great success of our GB about the 911's 50th anniversary , I noted now this year is also the 90th birthday of the most important, legendary and famous engurance race of the world.
For anybody as me visiting La Sarthe, the palce is simply magic.Have been there several times, and everytime it was a real pleasure (excluding the WC of the camping usually out of service after 3 hours since opening..LOL)

How about a group build in the same way of the carrera one about the 24 hours of le mans?

maybe this video can give ispiration...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=PIoJNuCbsKg#!

group build open to all model cars racing now and in the past in this incredible palce, including the le mans classic ones.all scales admitted.there are too many subjects suitable. including american Nascar.

Lets think about it...the race is this sunday :) !

When it start? And the deadline?

This is what I have been waiting for a long time, very happy to see it come, but deadline is crucial for very slow builders like me.

think the rules can be as for the porsche one. Very few rules, to avoid misunderstandings and modellers remaining outside of this.I want to involve as much people as I can.
being a group build...I think there is no needing for any deadline. In my dream this GB can go on for years achieving as many models possible, also from guys joining AF in the future.
Nothing to win here. Just a pleasure to be part of an incredibly nice collection useful for all members and visitors of the forum.

Also here my target will be a long, nice sweet gallery of models telling the history of this incredibly nice race.
As well as for porsches, can be nice to place into the gallery also the many models already seen here, with a quick link to the wip or completed gallery. It is possible also to double some models already seen in porsch section, being porsche one of the main actors of the french race.Of course this time can be much more interesting to see the "strange ones"...often real modelling challenge to make.

Lets seen how many guys are interested in this for the nest days...I think will be another cool GB :) and thanks god Le mans cars are some of the most reproduced in scales 24 and 43. :)

Would love to jump in, but I'll be in a muddy tent all weekend (at Le Mans...LOL!).

Seriously though, if it is a long duration build I'd be up for it, as most of my stuff is LM esque. It will be many months before I can get properly back into a project though!:frown:

already started! i started with the interior of the tamiya 911 gt1. the dash insert is my first attempt. as it doesnt fit very well, i might redo it. the speedo should be recessed more i think. the steering column plate i scratched after seeing pics from a 996. i hope i got the shape right! the odd looking pieces of small styrene are supposed to be the switch on the lower part of the dash. since i was in a hurry to post, i didnt reshoot the pic again.:loser: i also started with the face plate of the what i assume is a radio?!

if anybody would like to contribute reference pictures of this car, please do so. i would be very thankful! comments are welcome!

ahah, great guys. Love this kinda response :D
Icon modeller...OMG... that is a REAL collection :D impressive really. Now I wonder how many kilos of 956/962 decals u should have apart :D ....and of course u are thinking there is ALWAYS some missing :D..

24 hours :D yes, with suck nickname u cant be away from this idea.
Btw, open a wip of the gt1, surely many guys can help u. which version are u gonna going to build? we made a big debacle about this gt, ending in my personal delirium and "fetish" love for the hardest one to make of course. the 98 "flying away" version....

There will be no deadline then, just a starting line of the thread scheduled maybe for the 14.00 pm of the next sunday :D, in the same time of the live start of the real race.
I suggest all to have a look at this incredible resource for le mans car to take ispiration
http://www.racingsportscars.com/track/photo/Le%20Mans.html

as u all probably already know, it is a website full of pictures of all the cars raacing at le mans (and other races worldwide) and its an incredibly interesting database for rare pics and infos.
Unfortunately there is not (according to what I know) similar sources for LM classic.I mean the classic race, not the parade. Otherwise also my street bmw m3 can be part of the show..and I think really not of course :D

For sure this new GB will create some double image post with the 911 carrera one, just cause as we said before the 911 was and always will be a too important contender for this race, so think it is absolutely wellcome, and nobody can be bored to see 2 times the image of a nice model. Together we can choose simply a different one, and I am sure u have plenty of it.

remember the gb thread should be mostly about pics and link to personal gallery/wip, and I am not a moderator, so I cannot clean eventually posts placed into this image post only.
To avoid mess then, just plz pm me when it will start to update the main gallery little by little, witht the link at your gallery7wip and the SINGLE image u prefer to be posted. It probably takes time, and very very soon I am leaving for sweden, but i am sure with a little patience we can make an incredibly nice gallery as me and Great Phil are doing for the 911.

I have only one request:
I am italian and my english is in the condition u can read.I learn it completely alone, not at school, where I study a basic German, after years of different working experience and travelling around the world.

I just need some volounteer mothertongue checking my text in english before we start the thread.Being the forum english language based I would like it to be gramatically correct.

Thnx all.

1983...porsche 956. Impressive how 934 rsr are slow as stones on the road compared to this rocket.Incredible think about the speed involved on those long straights (wasnt the 956 another one nearly reaching the 400 kmts/h on the straights?)...

yes, I didnt note there is already a whatever group build about a le mans meet.Unfortunately is real old and quite messy, with a lot of deadlinks. it is exactly what I will NOT do.
As Phil told me in PM, the risk is to make it become another messy too, also cause we should divide the main gallery with finished models only from the discussion thread (can be alredy this one) with comments and so on.

Maybe better give up the idea and go on make my models.. :bananadie

Here is an idea, have each person who enters make a first post, showing the unbuilt kit, and let them say a self imposed deadline
Then you say that the thread will be locked by (insert date here) for example, New years?
Let each person work to their own speed, and a predetermined time frame for the thread to become locked!
:)

LOL it's all good man! I have to admit that I have more kits than I should for just building sake, I would hazard to say that most scale modelers have a small - or more in your case :D - tendency to collect kits for no other reason :)

dont think it works.
Already seen also in real life modelling club that is impossible to force modeller finish a model to a scheduled deadline. It never worked, cause mostly we all are amateur modellers and not professionist (when I sell a committed model, I always must give a scheduled delivery date, cause money are involved....)
Unfortunately it is stuff made mostly in spare time.we made a similar thing some yrs ago in a little italian forum and the idea (very large range..C groups in everyscale..) was a total failure ended in 5 models only, after a collective enthusiasm of hundreds of fellows.
The idea to keep all free (deadlines, timings and so on) is just to invite in a kindly way people to be part of a nice group build. too many really need the "freedom sensation", even more in those virtual activity as posting models on internet.
Otherwise becomes a work.I am able to fix a model in 5 working days, but it must be really wellpayed time, takimng me working overnight for a pourpose, and often I regret it anyway, cause the commitment not always ask me stuff I like tu build...
Also this was coming from my esci/tamiya modeller activity for stand news expo in the 90s....

Also to look at the year entries for AFMOTY makes me think about it...so thats why probably is just better give up.
More, the LM idea is not so new, cause there is already a gallery inside here.

The 911 is a nice idea, but as u see nowadays there is few people (very good btw) adding or keeping progress to the announced wips.

And also fix all the posts, wips, gallery will become a very timetaking activity, that maybe I'd better spent on my models, or sailing due to summer season ;)

Yes there are over 100 956/962 kits. And yes I have over 100 different decal sheets to go with them. The beauty of having all of these is that when I decide I want to build one or two or ten I can pick and choose which ones I want to build. I don't have to wish that I had a decal sheet that has not been seen on the planet in 15 years. I can just go to a file, pick the decal sheet I want with the appropriate kit and I'm on my way.

Do I think I will build them all??? Most likely not, but it would be fun to try and even better to pick out only the ones that are really interesting. As for the ones I don't build. Maybe some day far off in the future I'll start selling those to offset my retirement......:biggrin::biggrin:

It is exactly my way of thinking. Its model collecting..who cares if I have so many? its my stuff..only mine :D it is already a pleasure to see those piles in sooo precise order of the pics u posted.
All this stuff cost less than pay for wife new car, maybe destroyed withing 24 hours.
Or simply think at fools wasting millions at the green table....

great respect for u. I think EXACTLY as u do.
I dont care to have 100 identical models that I will never maybe assembly .
Consider I've worked for a guy spending 500.000 euros in completed models (yes ...500.000 EUROS, closed in a special apartment where he dont live in the heart of milano downtown, closed windows and with airconditioning at 23 degrees all year).Half apartment are models, the other half are books. historical and modelling books.no internet BS.

OK, I would love to participate, and have the Simil'R Ford Gt kit that I would like to build.

The problem is, my version (Marc VDS) didn't race at LeMamns. Did this livery run there on this car? If so, where can I find the correct number placards for the car?

If not, I saw (thanks to the link given by LoveGT40) pictures of the Piloti Ford GT that ran in 2011. Did anyone ever make these decals, or ANY decals for this car at LeMans?

Thanks for any help as I would really like to build this kit for this theme.

Greg,
I don't know what race they portray, but Patto's Place has decals for the 2009 and 2010 Piloti sponsored Ford GTs of Robertson Racing.

Go to the below URL for Patto's Place, then click the "F" under Decals, and scroll about 4/5ths of the way down until you find "Frd GT - Rbertson Racing - 2009" and a bit farther down for "Frd GT - Rbertson Racing - ALMS - 2010".

OK, I'm in, but not with the above mentioned car. I'm going with stuff I have, so mine will be the 1966 GT40 driven by Jackie Ickx, raced as number 60.

I have the proper MK I Fujimi kit, the correct decals from UMI (the are actually for the Sebring car so I will need new numbers), and the HRM engine detail kit. I've been wanting to build one of these and this will give me the inspiration and motivation to get it done!

Thanks to the original poster for organizing this!
