1992 imperial stuck in Limp Mode. While moving (safely) I put the car in neutral and switch off the ignition, restart, and put in drive, no good still in limp.
Flushed trans with +4 Fluid, no good. On occasion it will move out of limp, but when slowing down to stop, it will slam into a lower gear and stay there.
Had the exact same problem with a 1991 New Yorker Fifth avenue. Spent over 3000.00 0n rebuilds and repairs. would last a month prox and return to limp. Finally blew.
On this one I am looking for more info than from a trans repair shop. Any thoughts?

Rebuilt trannys don't solve anything. Millions of transmissions have been replaced for nothing. Check engine light on? Have you checked for codes? It could be something as simple as a sensor. My 93 Voyager did the same thing once, I replaced a 17 dollar vehicle speed sensor and it has been fine for 170,000 miles on original tranny.
