I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla with a leaking timing chain tensioner. I was able to locate a procedure for replacing the tensioner but it didn't say whether the no. 1 cylinder had to be @ TDC or not. What is the proper procedure for this repair?

If you remove the timing chain for some reason, it is best to have the crank at TDC for No. 1 cylinder so that all the timing marks line up. If you have not removed the chain, then there is no reason to have the crank at any particular point in the rotation. Just make sure the chain doesn't change position on the cam gears or the crank gear while it has no tension.
