After a while e new WIP for 2 bikes, one fo me and another fro a friend of mine.
http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/andrew59it/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/YZF750_87_TECH21_fujimi.jpg

There is not too much to see but this kit has positive and negative sides.... Positive is detailing, nuts, bolts it's all there. Negative the fujimi engineering. All the tubes connections are missing, the plastic is that kind of "glass" plastic. The building takes a lot of care and putty as you can see from this picture.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/andrew59it/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2660.jpg

I will not fill the gap as these kits will be quite out of the box, and I will spend my time on visible details.
For the moment a lot of metallic shades as per instructions is all silver or chrome silver so using different colors is fundamental

Matt clear on the center and satin clear on the outside.
The writings are toned down with grey chalk dust dissolved in satin clear paint.....

Andrew what brand paint are you using?
Hiroboy was advertising soon the tech21 colors last year but I never saw them listed or a part number for them
The wheel looks great
Thanks

I'm using Zero piant.... :p
I bought the light blue when it was available, and sent the original decal to Hiroboy to have the dark blue matched. They asked me for the decals....So they sent me a free of charge bottle of dark blue, but the color was wrong (so the decals) and they retired the tech 21 colors.
I made the "lavander" mixing their light blue, galuoises blu and ferrari red... :iceslolan It seems to be the best I could do.....

Andrew. If I understand correctly then Hiroboy no longer has the paint for the tech21 Yamahas?
I was hoping to get them
I emailed Steve there but I never got a response

You are right , no more available. As the dark blue was wrong, Steve told me they cannot sell paints which don't match exactly the right colors. They are not able to reproduce the correct lavander as they have no reference. You may try ask him for the light blue....

I have made the oil tube plug since it lacked....
From this:
http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/andrew59it/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2700.jpg (http://s391.photobucket.com/user/andrew59it/media/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2700.jpg.html)

to this:

It's the turn of the rear shock..... Some issue as you need to glue some parts together before painting them....so some putty sanding and painting is needed....

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/andrew59it/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2702.jpg (http://s391.photobucket.com/user/andrew59it/media/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2702.jpg.html)

Than I installed the engine into the frame. The frame is glued only in the aft side to be able to enlarge it . So is the turn of the swingarm....

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/andrew59it/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2709.jpg (http://s391.photobucket.com/user/andrew59it/media/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2709.jpg.html)

some details painted on the frame like the rear brake reservoir...
http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/andrew59it/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2712.jpg (http://s391.photobucket.com/user/andrew59it/media/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2712.jpg.html)

There is a gap on the lower part of the frame with the engine support. Probably some putty will fix it...

Thank you John....
Some progress:
sanding and putty the air intakes more than one time....I don't like to putty, probably my techinque is not correct...
This is not the final picture, now the gap is not more visible

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/andrew59it/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2717.jpg (http://s391.photobucket.com/user/andrew59it/media/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2717.jpg.html)

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/andrew59it/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2719.jpg (http://s391.photobucket.com/user/andrew59it/media/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2719.jpg.html)

Then the rear caliper. I have no reference about the brake line so I decided to place it outside of the caliper on the left side, as on the right side interferes with the whell spokes.... Like an Honda RC30. So I placed a small disk on the old hole and made a new one on the left side.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/andrew59it/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2721.jpg (http://s391.photobucket.com/user/andrew59it/media/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2721.jpg.html)

The way fujimi fix the whell on its axle is fantastic.... I'm not able to explain it in good english but in a few words the wheel stey in place because of the disk which is inside the caliper, but everything move so I will glue the wheel in place with some attack.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/andrew59it/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2727.jpg (http://s391.photobucket.com/user/andrew59it/media/WIP/Yamaha%20YZF750%20Tech%2021/IMG_2727.jpg.html)

Some decals on the tail... 3 on 4 are good but one need a touch up with the airbrush as the black doesn't match the lavander.

Andrew the swing arm looks good and the brake line should be on the left side if I remember the YZF used a modified Honda swing arm like the RC30. The panels look good with the lavender paint

I think John18d is right. I bought the Racer magazine in preparation for when I build my kit and I don't see any similarity to the swing arm/brake rotor set up Fujimi has moulded in their kit. Maybe a different version that doesn't show up in my book. In all the pics I have the brake line runs down the opposite side to the chain and connects on the outside of the caliper which is very different to what Fujimi has done in your pics. Do you want me to scan some of these pics and send them to you or do you already have reference pics?

Evilduse - the Tech21 Yamaha that is in the "Racers" magazine is the 1985 FZR750. The one Andrew is building is the 1987 YZF750 - they are different models but as I stated the swing arm I believe came from either a Honda RC30 or the Honda 650 Hawk USA models. Many of the endurance racers at the time here in the USA used the more available Honda Hawk650 swingarm which I believe was the RC31 USA model - it was a single sided swing arm twin cylinder 650cc Bike - they were widely available here in the USA and many racers adapted the swingarms into other bikes for faster wheel changes in longer endurance races - namely the WERA endurance series and the Daytona 200. The Tech21 YZF750 of 1987 was used at Suzuka with such a modification
Andrew I think a little more restraint of the brake line will keep the line from making contact with the wheel - Like I mentioned before I would look at pictures of the RC30 to get ideas about the rear brake line configuration - they should be similar in form and function. Also Andrew the black tubing you are using for the rear brake line is too large a diameter for the scale of the bike

Thank to all, the brake line is fujimi one and it's thinner than tamiya.... usually for brake line we use the tamiya tube so I thought the fujimi one was right....
There ia also another mistake on the kit look at the pictures....

Oh! Thanks for the correction John18d. Had me worried for a second. I didn't know Fujimi made more than one version of this bike. Had to run to the closet and see what mine was. Thought I had either wasted my money on the Racer magazine or andrew was doing some SERIOUS scratchbuilding to make his own swing arm assembly, etc!! :grinno:

Thats okay many people get confused with the two bikes - Fujimi has done both the 1985 and the 1987 bikes - Yamaha got away from the FZR line with the exception of the USA YZR750RR which was the OW01 and went to the newer more cheaper to produce YZF line - these were the nomeclature of the USA models, I'm not sure what they were called in other countries.
Andrew - with regards to the diameter of the rear brake line - don't sweat it - I only mentioned it because your builds of scale replicas are usually so detailed and perfect when finished. You don't have to change it I was only commenting before someone else mentioned it.
I'm still a big fan of your work and I have learned a lot from following your threads.

nice progress Andrea - really looks the part
The shock reservoir came out nicely and your exhaust hanger bracket looks good
what material did you use for the exhaust hanger bracket?
Thanks

Oh I understand - you just modified the end where it attached to the exhaust can.

I miss-understood and thought you made the whole piece.

Andrea - the sprockets and chain look really good too
did you airbrush them or did you paint with a brush?
also what color gold did you use for the chain?
This YZR is really coming out nicely
I can only hope mine will be close to what you are able to do
I learn so much every time you or Sandro build a bike

Hello John
sprockets and chain are airbrushed.... I used the tamya enamel gold for the outside and gun metal for the center section.
Some weathering did the rest....

Nice build Andrea!
I've thought of buing the Trick Star ZX10RRs from Fujimi but have been a bit uncertain about the quality/price ratio but I think I'll have a go.

Hello did you see my WIP about ZX10RR 2010? As fujimi kits there is a bit of work to do, but at the end the model is very nice, very crispy details....

No, I didn't. Been away for some years so I have some to catch up (didn't even know F made bikes...) I'll look your WIP up and have a look!

Some days ago clear coated the rear fairing and the tank. The rear fairing have been sanded and now I need to polish them.

I found some issues I could fix but without reference I didn't notice them.... as the rear oil tank which is empty... some putty would solve the problem... And the attachment pins too. I didn't noticed the should be visible....

It all looks really good Andrea - this really is coming along great
I see that Zero paints has the one color for the Tech21 bikes but not for the decal part
I don't think the kit decals are the best to use - I think painting it all would be better like you did Andrea
John

Andrea - what colors did you use to make the darker blue for the Tech21??
I see that Zero doesn't offer that color in the "tech21" paint set.
