Just in the process of fitting a 2 stage pump to the diff for trans and diff oil coolers.

Can one of you with a GTS help me out, what size (dimensions) is the diff cooler on the GTS and where is it mounted?

Thanks, Kel.

Anyone know what that piece of flat-bar below the driveshaft is for? Is it chassis stiffening linking those two square tubes together? Or, is it to keep the driveshaft from falling onto the track in the event of failure? Our GTRA doesn't have that, but I've seen it on pictures of Eric H's GTWC and a few GTSs.

Don, are the lines to and from the cooler -6 or -8?

Thanks, Kel.

Hi Kel,
If I do this properly there should be a couple pix below of my GTS diff cooler and oil pump. The cooler is four inches by eleven and one quarter inches (w/o the mounting tabs), the oil lines are AN8, and the oil pump in internal. The oil pump is quite small and is driven by a hex drive EDM'ed into the pinion gear -- pretty cool. Note that the cooler is high mounted and well out of the airflow, unlike the Penske set-up which was both low mounted and had an air scoop. The standard GTS set-up is lighter and better protected from track debris but the Penske set-up has to work better.
All the best, Bill GTS#35, Tallahassee.

Kel,
If this doesn't work I'll get some help in the next couple days.

Lines are -8. I have also added a Peterson strainer/filter in the return line(not shown here) to the pump. I had to have the original pump rebuilt by Weaver Bros. due to the rotors and seal damaged by metal debris.

I don't know for certain, but I think despite what the original intent may be, your questions would be valid concerns and improvements. I think I'll do that to mine, both as a safety device and chassis stiffening. If you've never broken a driveshaft/u-joint, it is not a pleasant experience. Its the loudest thing you may ever hear inside a racecar.

Thanks Bill really appreciate the info and pics.

I already have a 2 stage exteral pump ala the Penske GTS as I want to cool both the trans and diff and dont want to run electric pumps.

Given my propensity for running off the ttrack at speed at the moment I thik I may mount the coolers similarly to your car. I already have a largish cooler that will work for the diff and compensate to a degree for the lack of airflow.

Thanks Don, yes a strainer would be a good investment in my case as well given mine is a 2 stage pump so will have trans oil running through it as well. Will always be making some metal with 600hp going through it.
